The inaugural Bangsaen42 marathon road race will take place next weekend, 19 November, with a start and finish line at Bangsaen beach in Chonburi province, just 30 km north of Pattaya.
Event organiser Rut Jiroajvanichakorn says the race has attracted interest from both Thai and international runners and he hopes to have the event certified as an Association of Athletics Federations’ Gold Label Road Race by 2022, able to stand shoulder to shoulder with Asia’s top marathons.
Bangsaen42 Marathon will have a single race distance of 42.195 km rather than offering a variety of races from 10 km to half marathon to appeal to a wider audience.
The route will start from the Beach Road at Bangsaen Heritage Convention Centre to Bangsaen roundabout, then to Chonburi’s new landmark, the 84th Anniversary Bridge. It will pass the Angsila market, the shrine of Nezha’s Tai Tzu, Khao Sam Muk, Laem Tan, and along the beach to the finish line. Prize money for the winner is THB 30,000.
