IPGC golf from The Tara Court Golf Group
Sunday, Jan. 12, Green Valley (white tees) – Stableford
Our usual visit to Green Valley on Sunday and with not as many Koreans as normal this year it was possible to get around in a reasonable time of approx. four and a half hours, which is not too bad for high season.
A large group out so we decided to have two flights again. After struggling a bit this year since he came out to Thailand, Donal Lyne topped the A flight with the best score of the day of 37 points. Jack Behan came in second with 34 after beating his friend Teddy Lodge into third place on a count back.
Donal Lyne.
Teddy’s younger brother Ger topped the B flight with 34 points and he has managed to get among the prizes nearly every day he has played with us, and at the same time get a shot back on his handicap. Well done Ger!
Alec Hoare, who is also having a good spell at the golf, came second, also on 34 pts, being beaten on a count back by Ger, and Michael Williams came in third with 33.
Joe McArdle and John Fetherston shared the 2’s with one each.
A Flight
1st Donal Lyne (17) 37pts
2nd Jack Behan (15) 34pts
3rd Teddy Lodge (9) 34pts
B Flight
1st Ger Lodge (19) 34pts
2nd Alec Hoare (18) 34pts
3rd Michael Williams (19) 33pts
Tuesday, Jan. 14, Khao Kheow (yellow tees) – Stableford
Tuesday saw our first visit to Khao Kheow in a long time where we played the A and B courses. The course was in very good condition with fast greens and as usual a pleasure to play.
Evelyn McNamara.
Because of the difficulty of the course only one person managed to beat their handicap, Evelyn McNamara had an excellent 38 points for the best score of the day and a win in B flight by three points. Pat Culloty was second with 33 and once again Ger Lodge featured with 32 points.
In A flight Walter Panichi had an excellent 36 points, which off his 2 handicap was a great score. John Nicholas had four blanks but still managed to get 34 for second place and Frank McGowan came third with the same score but being beaten on a count back.
Joe Peters scooped the ‘2’s pot with the only one of the day and a big pay out.
A Flight
1st Walter Panichi (2) 36pts
2nd John Nicholas (8) 34pts
3rd Frank McGowan (15) 34pts
B Flight
1st Evelyn McNamara (22) 38pts
2nd Pat Culloty (20) 33pts
3rd Ger Lodge (19) 32pts
Thursday, Jan. 16, Pattavia Century – Stableford
This course is probably the best value in the area at the moment. In excellent condition and at over 6,500-yds and with lightning fast greens it is a good challenge of golf.
Despite the length of the course and the fast greens, Barney Sheedy managed to make it look easy with 40 points off his 10 handicap. Barney also got the only ‘2’ of the day to make it a very good payday for him. Three of our friends from Australia took up the next three places in A Flight, Tony Pike in second with 38, John Nicholas in third with 36 and Walter Panichi in fourth with 34, beating Ted Morris on a count back.
In B Flight the scores weren’t quite so good with the fast greens catching out most of the higher handicappers. John McKenna was the winner here with 31 points and Jack Behan was beaten into second on the count back with the same score. Sean Hallahan was third with 30 and Joe Peters came fourth with 29.
A Flight
1st Barney Sheedy (10) 40pts
2nd Tony Pike (9) 38pts
3rd John Nicholas (8) 36pts
4th Walter Panichi (2) 34pts
B Flight
1st John McKenna (17) 31pts
2nd Jack Behan (15) 31pts
3rd Sean Hallahan (20) 30pts
4th Joe Peters (23) 29pts
