Lewiinski’s Golf Society and players from Colin’s Bar teed off at Green valley this Sunday to play the monthly medal for December – and there was a great turnout requiring three flights with three places in each. The weather was excellent and the course in good condition.
Barry Tregurtha knew the round was out there, it just hadn’t been answering the call. Well it heard him just in time to take the monthly medal as he scorched the course with a gross 89 (net 67). Barry won a bottle of Jameson’s Irish whiskey, a non-transferable invite to play in the gold medal later in the year, and of course his name will be etched onto the Lewiinski’s wall of shame.
Mind you, every bit of that ‘scorching’ was required as a sublime day had the field tightly packed. Barry was followed up the C Flight podium steps by Colin ‘the donkey’ Davis with a fine net 69. Two players were tied on net 70, Aiden Murray and Don ‘the ladies’ man’ Lehmer, and when the dust had settled it was Don who was left at sea level and potless.
Kevin ‘the Offaly gang leader’ McEntee was the top man in the premier flight with a net 73 and was two strokes clear of Peter ‘never far from the brass ring’ LeNoury. Nice guy Dave Boran closed the flight with a net 78.
The scribe’s old mate Jez ‘Lucan’ Lees seem to have finally cured his chipping woes as he took B Flight with a fine even-par round, even though his card contained a 9 and an 8. Aussie star Nick Odnoral picked up the flight silver with a net73 as Ed Junger tidied up the podium with a net 77. Ed also claimed two near pin prizes.

A very strong field of golfers visited Bangpakong Riverside this Tuesday to play a stableford competition on a splendidly prepared course. A golfer at the top of his game will score well here, and so it was to prove as two players amassed an amazing 45 points.
A Flight’s Bruce Anderson was one of those players as he took top spot in his flight and a long putt as well. B Flight’s Kawahura Atshshi was the other as he sank a long putt plus and notched a near pin to add to his winnings.
Huge Phillips followed Bruce up the A Flight podium steps with an excellent 42 points and this left Alan Humphreys with the bronze after a solid 39-pointer plus a near pin.
Colin ‘the Donkey’ Davis lifted the B Flight silver with a very creditable 43 points as Tina Orth’s 38 closed the flight.
Friday, Dec. 16, Crystal Bay – Stableford
A Flight
1st Florian Orth (14) 33pts
2nd Walter O’Keefe (13) 32pts
3rd Oliver Orth (12) 32pts
B Flight
1st Tina Orth (24) 41pts
2nd Mick Coghlan (25) 40pts
3rd Peter Walker (20) 32pts
Near Pins: Walter O’Keefe, Mick Coghlan
Long Putts: Tina Orth and Mick Coghlan
There was no man of the match today but it wasn’t for the lack of trying – it was because the best score on the day was posted by the belle of the bar, Tina Orth with a great 40 points to take B Flight and match honours. This was also Tina’s second pay window visit of the week.
One would think that Christmas had come early for the Orth family as they filled three of the of the six podium spots. Mick Coghlan took the silver step in B Flight with a fine 40 points, leaving Peter Walker in third on 32.
The lads who actually know how to play the game (A Flight) for some reason struggled on the day as Tina’s son Florian took the top spot with just33 points. Walter O’Keefe a and Oliver North were knotted on 32 points apiece and when the dust had settled it was Walter’s back-nine that was more favorably dispersed than Oliver’s.
