Sunday, March 15, Green Valley – Stableford

A Flight

1st Yui Bietry (10) 39pts

2nd Peter LeNoury (11) 37pts

3rd Jacob Cummings (8) 36pts

B Flight

1st Barry Copestake (16) 43pts

2nd Eddy Beilby (17) 36pts

3rd Mick Beresford (16) 36pts

Near Pins: No 5 Barry Copestake, No 8 Peter Terry, No12 Yui Bietry, No16 Ian Pickles.

The Scribe has been playing golf (or at least owned a set of clubs) for around 25 years yet he has never accomplished what Barry ‘the boot’ Copestake did this Sunday – his very first hole in one at the par-three 5th.  Not only was Barry tops in B Flight and man of the match with a magnificent 43 points, he also cleared the 2’s pot and added a near pin and showed that his dedication on the driving range is staring to pay off.

Barry was seven clear of the quartet of Eddy ‘the Eagle’ Beilby, Jim Bell, Terry Peters and Mickey ‘nine holes’ Beresford.  Eddy was the happiest of that group and Mick had a grin on his face as Jim and Terry were left to prop up the bar.

Yui Bietry blew every ‘Tom, Dick and Harry’ away in A Flight with a fine39 points.  Peter LeNoury followed Yui up the podium steps head bowed with 37 points and three players went head to head for the bonze spot; Jacob Cummings emerging the victor while Asgar Levin and Ian Pickles joined Jim and Peter at the bar.

Back at Lewiinski’s and after the presentation Barry duly rang the bell.

Monday, March 16, Khao Kheow B & C – Stableford

A Flight

1st Lawrie McBride (13) 37pts

2nd Freddy Starbeck (14) 35pts

3rd Dominic Downey (13) 35pts

B Flight

1st Joe Tynan (25) 44pts

2nd Peter Henshaw (22) 35pts

3rd Colin Davis (17) 34pts

One never knows when he will strike but Joe Tynan never keeps you waiting too long; the Irishman’s spectacular 44 points was the best in B Flight and on the day overall.  Joe was nine strokes clear of fellow Mick, Peter ‘the silver surfer’ Henshaw and the Donkey trotted off with the bronze a further shot back.

Scotland’s Lawrie McBride stood atop the A Flight podium with a steady 37 points while Freddy Starbeck and Dominic Downey were only separated in second and third places due to a count back, both with 35 points and finishing in that order.

Lawrie McBride and Colin Davis split the 2’s pot.

Thursday, March 19, Mt. Shadow – Stableford

1st Christy Knight (22) 31pts

2nd Tore Eliassen (20) 30pts

3rd Joe Tynan (25) 30pts

It might be that the low season has arrived a little early as only a small but talented field hit the road to take on the always tough Mountain Shadow.  Christy Knight sat atop the podium with 31 points, one stroke clear of Tore Eliassen and the resurgent Joe ‘smoking; Tynan.  The count back dictated that they climb the podium in that order.

The flamboyant Walter Baechli was the sole heir to the ‘2’s pot

Friday, March 20, Crystal Bay C & A – Stableford

A Flight

1st Anne Stokes (12) 40pts

2nd Walter Baechli (15) 35pts

B Flight

1st Peter Henshaw (22) 33pts

2nd Torben Nielson (30) 31pts

A fair sized crowd left Lewiinski’s to play the Thai Takenaka creation Crystal Bay.  There wasn’t much doubt who won A Flight’s belle of the bar award, Anne Stokes with a sparkling 40 points.  She was also the only player to better their handicap.  Second spot went to a count back between the flamboyant Water Baechli and Irishman Matt Cronin, but there was no luck of the Irish as Walter edged Matt off the podium.

Larry Scattory and Peter ‘the silver surfer’ Henshaw were tied on 33 points in B Flight but a count back was not required because Larry is not a member.  Torben Nielson rounded out the flight with 31 points.

Walter Baechli was the only player to record a ‘2’.
