Another good turnout for a Sunday at Green Valley where the course was looking good and ready for the upcoming Singha Championship.
Starting on time all groups got away quickly, a bit too quick as it turned out, as when we got to the 2nd tee there were 4 groups on the same hole. This slowly stretched itself out with the only waiting coming on the par 3’s.
All the best scores came in B flight with Francis Bathurt coming out on top with 43 points (23 on the front and 20 on the back with no blobs). Gary Emmett had a solid 20 points each side, beating Stan smith on count back over the last 3 holes for second place.
Francis’ playing partner J.P. Maffray managed to steal first place in A flight with 35 points while Fred Birch and Peter Lenoury were next up on the podium in that order, just one point in arrears.
Monday, March 13, Greenwood A & B – Stableford
1st Mogens Jensen (40) 42pts
2nd Stan Smith (32) 40pts
3rd Pete Shaw (33) 39pts
Near Pins: Pete Shaw & Alistair Gall
Long Putts: Alistair Gall
14 players today for Greenwood at the reduced rate of 650 baht green fee. There were no hitches with the travel apart from the Donkey forgetting his change of clothes, so it was a smelly return trip.
Mogens Jensen spent the whole of the previous weekend watching the Golf Channel and it certainly paid off as his 42 point gave him first place. Stan Smith was not far behind on 40 points and slipped into third spot with 39.
It was Neil Smith’s birthday today but the others were in no mood to give him anything. He looked good on the front nine with 20 points but stubbled on the inward half and was left with just small change for his birthday party.
Friday, March 17, Silky Oak – Stableford
1st Asger Levin (15) 40pts
2nd Colin Davis (23) 38pts
Just 6 players out today and the big hitting Asger Levin, in his last game before going home, was determined to put on a good show. Nigel Harrison and the Donkey briefly threatened to usurp Asger’s day with 23 and 22 points on the front nine respectively to Asger’s 20, but the latter maintained his form best on the inward half for another 20 points to take the win. The Donkey and Nigel both slipped back with the Donkey’s16 giving him second place on 38 overall.
The course was in excellent condition and with no one in front we finished in 3hrs 15mins.
