IPGC Pattaya Golf Society at The Links Bar

On Monday, March 21 the Pattaya Golf Society visited an empty yet beautiful Burapha to enjoy a stableford competition on the A and B nines, which were in excellent condition.

Playing from the blue tees the course certainly did not seem to be the full 6,800 yards and with everything sitting up on the fairways and the consistency of the greens, the players enjoyed golf of a rare quality.

Burapha Golf Course – in fine shape.

Scores were not exceptional however, with Stuart Thompson and Mark Lang sharing second place with 32 points each and Jon Batty returning 37 points on his return to the group after a break doing other things.  All three principals also featured in the ‘2’s competition, achieving birdies on A6 and B3.

The day at Burapha was thoroughly enjoyable for all the golfers and it is always a treat to play a challenging course in such fine condition.

Stuart’s Good Friday

The Easter weekend started for the Pattaya Golf Society with a visit to Mountain Shadow on Good Friday to play its monthly medal competition on a course which needed water on the fairways and more sensible pin placings instead of finding near impossible holes set on slopes on the undulating greens.  Makes them good for bets I suppose but farangs are not interested in that, are they?

The large field took off on time on an empty course and a slight breeze helped keep things comfortable.  Results were very close with Murray Edwards making fourth place with net 78 and Jon Batty’s best gross giving him net 77 for third place.  In second a very solid round by Mike King gave him net 76 but he was eclipsed by the week’s form man Stuart Thompson whose net 74 could easily have been sub-par if a sensible greenkeeper had been on the club’s payroll.

Wichai Tananusorn and Greg Gawron managed birdie ‘2’s on the short fifth.

The Booby Bevy was awarded to Huw Phillips for an uncharacteristic oversight on the first which caused him later to “n/r” his card.

For most the week had ended successfully and for Stu Thompson it was indeed a Good Friday which would hopefully be the prelude to a relaxing weekend.
