Jomtien Golf with the IPGC

Monday, July 27, Crystal Bay – Stableford

The B course here is still under renovation so we started on the C nine with the A course to follow and it was quite a warm day with hardly any breeze.

There were four groups out and after nine holes the lowest score on all the cards was 18 points and the highest was 23, which made us wonder how high the winning score would be today.  Sadly it all went downhill from there onwards for no apparent reason and in the end two 38’s came in to top the two divisions.

Jerry Sweetnam was the winner in division 1 with one of those 38-pointers and Sid Crawley came in second after beating Neil Gamble 14/13 on the back nine, both tied overall on 34 points each.

In division 2 the winner was Harry Vincenzi with the other score of 38 points and he finished three up on Willy van Heetvelde in while Tom Novak took third with 34.

Near pins went to (Div 1) Andre Holder and Chris Voller, and (Div 2) Tom Novak.

Andre Holder, playing off 10, birdied C4 to scoop three rollovers in the first division ‘2’s comp and in division 2 there was a rollover to Plutaluang on Wednesday.

Wednesday, July 29, Plutaluang – Stableford

It was the North and West courses again today, with the East still being closed, and only one division out.

Chris Voller topped the day’s podium with 35 points and an 18/17 back-nine count back verdict over Curtis Hessler, while Tom Murphy placed third after beating Roar Berger and Andre Holder 15/14/12 on the back nine, all coming in with 30 points each.

Andre birdied W3 for the only ‘2’ in division 1 and there was another rollover in division 2.

Near pins today were claimed by Andre Holder and Chris Voller in division 1 and Curtis Hessler in division 2.

Friday, July 31, Eastern Star – Stableford

There were a few worrying looking clouds on our approach to the course but we managed to get away with a rain free round.

In his last game but one before his return to Norway and after not playing to his handicap for a couple of months, Roar Berger won division 2 with a fine 42 points.  Tom Murphy was second on the podium after beating Frank Kelly 18/16 on the back nine, both finishing with 34 points.

The cut today with six groups out was 9-13 and 15+ in division 2, and with 35 points Chris Voller topped division 1 standings ahead of Jerry Sweetnam in second on 32 and third placed Arthur Hancock on 31.

Near pins went to (Div 1) Colin Aspinall, Bill Bertram, John O’Brien and Chris Voller, and (Div 2) Darryl Blair and Harry Vincenzi (2).

Chris Voller birdied the 13th and Harry Vincenzi the 6th to claim the ‘2’s prize money in both divisions.
