Sixty teams of anglers vied for 70,000 baht in prizes as they tried to land the biggest catch at the Jomtien Fishing Games this month.

The rules are quite simple: Teams accumulate points based on the types of fish they catch. Prizes were awarded in five categories with the winners in each class taking home 7,500 baht each, the runners-up 5,500 baht and third place finishers 3,500 baht.

For catchers of snakehead, barracuda, shark and spearfish, the winner was Srongpol Jindadee with a snakehead weighing 15.2 kilograms. Rungroj Sung-gnuen came in second with a 6kg snakehead and Narong Saelee took third with a 6.1kg shark.
In the Stingray category, Suchart Sornperit’s 16.8kg ray won him first place, while Wittaya Sawadee netted one weighting 10.4kg and the Chang B Jomtien team had third place with a 2.4kg catch.

Category 3 included catfish, swordfish, mackerel, goatfish, queenfish, kingfish, and checkered snapper, but all the winners landed queenfish. Hon Padungchom caught one weighing 8kg for first place, Sarawut Boonma got one weighing 7.1kg for second and Morkot Srihoya landed one for 5.2kg for third.

In the grouper, cichlid, sea bass and other scaled fishes group, Yoding Saeng-gnamtha hauled in a grouper weighting 3.9kg for first place, Suchart Sriprert got on at 3.8kg for second and Amnart Chimanee caught a coral scale fish weighing 3.1kg for third.
The final contest was for all other fish and total combined catch. The winner was Chaiwat Deeden with 43.8kg of seafood, Amnart Chimanee netted 39kg in fish and Narong Saelee placed third with a haul of 25.6kg.
