Travellers Rest Golf Group
Another week of hot steamy conditions and the occasional downpour but were we downhearted, the answer was “No”. As golfers we all get used to taking the rough with the smooth and in Thailand it is certainly nearly always smooth.
Monday, June 22, The Emerald – Stableford
On Monday the TRGG headed over to Emerald and seeing we are in the middle of the low season numbers seem to be holding up.
Jim Cleaver kept everything together and obviously didn’t miss too many putts in building his 38 points, which was easily good enough to take the No. 1 spot. Rungratree Puangsal, still fresh from her recent wedding, was showing no ill effects and maintained her honeymoon on the golf course as she finished in second place on 35 points. Big Jon Dean returned from a lengthy absence and made up for lost time by taking third place.
1st Jim Cleaver (10) 38pts
2nd Rungratree Puangsal (12) 35pts
3rd Jon Dean (11) 34pts
Wednesday, June 24, Khao Kheow – Stableford
Wednesday it was the turn of Khao Kheow (A and B courses) to feature on the schedule and the turnout on the day was what one might expect in the low season, low.
Billy Allan, Joe Depasquale & Jim Cleaver.
Little Joe Depasquale remained undaunted and headed the small field with 34 points. Big beefy Mike Smith could not get the better of Joe and had to settle for second place whilst Billy Allan, the wily little Aussie scouser, and never one to miss a trick, snuck into third place.
1st Joe Depasquale (12) 34pts
2nd Mike Smith (5) 33pts
3rd Billy Allan (16) 29pts
Friday, June 26, Phoenix – Stableford
On Friday the TRGG thought they would delight all the ladies by making a swift return to Phoenix (Mountain and Ocean), where they will usually beat all before them. However, on the day, and quite amazingly, they were not able to dominate proceedings as normal.
Billy Allan stepped forward to put the ladies in their place although there were questions asked as to why Billy had turned up wearing a skirt, a wig and was suddenly speaking with a high voice and demanding we spelt his name Billie. You have to hand it to those people originating from Liverpool, they are born comedians.
Billy, or is it Billie, returned with 37 points, which was just good enough to pip Tewin Poopay Lamthong in second and Rungratree Puangsal in third.
1st Billy Allan (16) 37pts
2nd Tewin Poopay Lamthong (10) 36pts
3rd Rungratree Puangsal (10) 36pts
Good luck to all you golfers for the coming week and if you would like to play a round of golf with the TRGG, please phone Fergus Brennan on 086 056 7019 or pop into the Ned Kelly Bar in Soi Lengkee and add your name to the weekly lists which are posted on the notice board.
