The Travellers Rest Golf Society
Monday, July 24, Pattana – Stableford
1st John Walker (5) 37pts
2nd Norihiko Tanako (12) 35pts
3rd T. Toshi (22) 31pts
This course here always appears to be in fine condition and its wide fairways give the bigger hitters the opportunities to score well. Despite the generous width there are enough hazards to keep each player honest and it isn’t often players come away with large scores.
T Toshi scored well to post 31 points and this was good enough to take third place. Norihiko Tanako produced a good round of 35 points and this was a good enough score for second, however, there was no one anywhere near John Walker who produced a wonderful round of 4 over par to give him 37 points and the top prize.
Tuesday, July 25, Phoenix – Stableford
1st Norihiko Tanako (12) 37pts
2nd Stuart James (23) 36pts
3rd Paul Stewart (35) 35pts
On Tuesday the group made its weekly trip to Phoenix Gold. With heavy overnight rain making the fairways slower than ever it was always going to be difficult to hit good scores.
Paul Stewart shot one over his handicap and finished just behind Stuart James whose 36 points were good enough for second place. However the round of the day came from Norihiko Tanako, his 37 points enabling him to go one better than his second place the previous day.
Wednesday, July 26, Khao Kheow – Stableford
1st Norihiko Tanako (12) 36pts
2nd Stece Kawai (16) 36pts
3rd Alistair Miller (18) 35pts
Wednesday saw the 7th round of the Ferdinand Cup and Khao Kheow once again proved to be a wonderful venue for this competition.
Alistair Miller’s 34 points were good enough for third place and he wasn’t far off the pole position. This turned out to be a closely fought battle between Steve Kawai and Norihiko Tanako, and with both players scoring a respectable 36 points it was left to Norihiko’s better back-9 to win the day and qualify him for January’s play off.
Thursday, July 27, St. Andrews – Scramble
Thursday saw a break in the normal return as 5 teams of 4 players were entered in the Barcelona Valley Scramble at St Andrews, which drew a total field of 148 players. This proved to be a most enjoyable day and the group were grateful to the organisers for putting on such a great event.
Due to the authenticity of the TRGG handicap system the chance of any of our groups winning was slim, and this proved to be the case as there was no way that any team could surpass the winning 52 point score.
Friday, July 28, Greenwood – Stableford
1st Billy Allan (17) 36pts
2nd Don Hawkins (18) 35pts
3rd Norihiko Tanako (12) 33pts
Friday saw the group visiting the Greenwood Golf Course and once again Norihiko Tanako was in good form, shooting 33 points to take third place. Don Hawkins scored a fine 35 points to take second, but this was to be Billy Allen’s day. Free from the burden of death threats “Billy Biceps” blasted 36 points to take the day’s top prize.
Saturday, July 29, Pattavia – Stableford
1st Norihiko Tanako (12) 37pts
2nd Don Hawkins (18) 32pts
3rd Mr Nishimaki (15) 31pts
Saturday saw the end of a great week for Norihiko Tanako. Pattavia can be a bit tricky as a result of the fast greens but not for Norihiko as he scored a fine 37 points and won comfortably from Don Hawkins in second place while back in third with 31 points was Mr Nishimaki
