PSC 139th Monthly Golf Tournament

There were 137 golfers (132 participating) at the recent Pattaya Sports Club Monthly Golf Tournament, held on December 23 at Pattaya Country Club.

With perfect weather the scores were extremely varied, with many having trouble on greens that still need a fair bit of work done on them.

With a 2 tee start and a big field it was quite a busy day and unfortunately slow play was once again predominant, with PSC Golf Chairman Mark West announcing that in future these tournaments will be restricted to a field of 120 with an additional waiting list.

Once again PSC departed from the usual Friday tournament by holding it on a Tuesday, which worked out well with excellent attendance and of course just a short trip back into Pattaya afterwards.

Golf Chairman Mark West, together with Peter Blackburn, Dick Warberg, Andre Van Dyk & Gerd Reidler arrived at the course early to prepare for the players arrival, together with the Pattaya Country Club staff who were on hand and very helpful.

With A Flight playing medal off the blue tees, B, C & D Flights playing Stableford off the white tees, and Seniors and Ladies playing stableford off the silver & red tees respectively, the stage was set for a good day’s golf and once more there was a count back required to determine the low gross winner on the day.  Ron Birdsall and Paul Smith both carded gross 79’s and with a 38 back-nine Ron took the honours, with Paul having a 41 back-nine.

‘A’ Flight, playing medal, was won by Ken Aihara (4) who had a net 75.

‘B’ Flight using the Stableford format saw Rob Browne (11) in top spot with 36 points.

‘C’ Flight was well won by Steve Ellison (18) who had a great day out, scoring 42 points.

‘D’ Flight winner was Torsten Bischoff (35) with 37 points.

Prajak Taylor won the Seniors/Ladies with the best score of the day, scoring 45 points.

The presentation and prize giving was at Shenanigans in Jomtien and the good crowd in attendance were treated to an excellent feed and very reasonable drink prices.

At the presentation, Peter Blackburn welcomed all and introduced Golf Chairman Mark West who expressed his appreciation to the day’s players and those who assisted him at the course, and to Dave from the Sportsman’s pub for the food, the PSC office staff for the pre-tournament work and Kit and Patti who sold the 50/50 lucky draw tickets.  He also thanked Shenanigans for donating 2x 1000 baht food and drink vouchers which provided 2 more prizes in the 50/50 draw.

Mark also announced that the next tournament will be the PSC Club Championship to be held at Khao Kheow on Tuesday the 6th and Friday the 9th of January, 2015 and he urged everyone to sign up and pay their money early at PSC Office as it is a restricted field as mentioned earlier.

Peter then announced the winners and Mark presented the prizes followed by the Lucky Draw and the 50/50 draw.
