Monday, May 4, Bangpra – Stableford

A smaller field than normal today and the two divisional cut was made at 19 and below in the top flight.

In form lately, Pete Sumner scored 36 points to win division 1 ahead of John Walsh in second on 32.  Kari Aarnio topped the podium in division 2 with 34 points and Colin James was second on 29, beating ‘count-back’ Burnie 15/11 on the back six.

Pete Sumner birdied the second to record the only ’2’ of the day.

This was our first visit here for some time and the course was in reasonable condition, but the greens were a lot slower than what we are used to and the monkey population seems to have grown dramatically as well.

Wednesday, May 6, Phoenix – Stableford

We were on the Mountain and Ocean nines today and it was another scorching day.  Returning his best score for some time and playing off 20, Alan Bissell won division 2 with a fine 42 points.  Gil Phillips came in second, beating John Walsh 18/14 on the back nine after they both tied on 33 points.

Jon Poole, playing off 11, beat Pete Sumner 18/17 on the back nine after they both came in with 34 points each to win the senior flight and in third place with 32 was Ian Speirs, beating Terry Madsen 19/18 on the back nine.

Near pins went to (Div 1) Mike Chatt (2), Dave Horne and Pete Sumner, and (Div 2) Alan Bissell, Gil Phillips and Bob Poole.

Mike Chatt birdied O5 and Pete Sumner M8 for the only ‘2’s of the day.

Friday, May 8, Eastern Star – Stableford

Probably the hottest round of the week until the clouds moved in as the first group reached the 14th green and there was thunder and lightning all around, but we missed it all luckily enough.

Bruce Gardner won division 2 with 34 points ahead of Glyn Evans in second one point behind and Roger de Jongh took third with 32.

In division 1, Chris Voller beat Colin Aspinall 21/19 on the back nine to take victory after they both scored 33 and Frank Kelly edged Pete Sumner 15/12 to take third place after they were locked on 29 points apiece.

Near pins went to (Div 1) Colin Aspinall, Wilf Latham and Chris Voller, and (Div 2) Bruce Gardner and Tony Thorne.

There were no ‘2’s today in either division so rollovers to here on the 22nd.
