Friday, June 23, Eastern Star – Stableford

Heavy rain here in Jomtien overnight but on arrival here at the course the conditions were not too bad and ‘pick, clean and place’ was not implemented.

There were five groups out with the cut at 7-16 and 18+ and the organizer Glyn Evans, with his best performance for a long time, scuffed his second shot on the stroke index 1 on the par-4 16th to within three feet and sank the putt for a five-pointer.  He ended up with the best score of the day, winning division 2 with 40 points.  Rod Howett was second on 37 and Bill Peach beat Tony Thorne on a 18/15 count back after they both scored 34 points.

Darryl Ottaway topped division 1 with 34 points, with Dave Thomas second on 31 and Paul Hubbard beat Brian Green on a 20/13 back-nine count back after they both came in with 30 points each.

Near pins were claimed by (Div 1) Brian Green, Paul Hubbard, Darryl Ottaway and Dave Thomas, and (Div 2) Jim Bell and Rod Howett.

Paul Hubbard and Dave Thomas birdied the 17th and Darryl Ottaway the sixth to split the ‘2’s pot in division 1 while in division 2 there are now two rollovers here next Friday.
