It is obvious that high season has finally arrived as we had a very large group out here today at Green Valley.  We had so many in fact that we had to divide up and put some of the group out in a separate competition on Silky Oak.  Again there were many complaints about the condition of the Green Valley course, both the greens and the fairways.

We had two flights at GV with five prizes in each flight.  In the B Flight the winner was Pauline Byrne who has just arrived from Ireland and was playing her first game for this trip.  Pauline had thirty six points and finished one ahead of Ted Murphy in second.  Ted was by far the biggest winner though as he got the only ‘2’ of the day and the pot included a big carry over from the previous week.  Joe Peters took the third place with thirty two points.

Joe Cuddy is another man who has just arrived and he got the fourth place with thirty one points and Evelyn McNamara was once again in the prizes, getting the fifth place with twenty nine and beating Mark Armstrong on the count back.

In the A Flight Kevin Blake, who was having a bad time at the golf for the past few weeks, really came in to his own and was the winner with what was by far the best score of the day, a fine forty one points.  In second was Paul Pavloff with thirty six and Shaun Track took third with thirty four.

Gerry Doyle got the fourth place a further point back and Phil Clerehan filled fifth place with thirty two, keeping Declan Kelly out of the prizes on count back.

Sunday, Jan. 15, Silky Oak – Stableford

1st Ken Hole (20) 38pts

2nd Larry Eden (23) 33pts

3rd Sean McNamara (12) 32pts

4th Peter Henshaw (23) 31pts

5th Paul Bray (8) 30pts

In contrast to Green Valley, the reports from Silky Oak were that the course was in very good condition and all the people who played there were very pleased with it.  For many of them it was their first time to play here and they were all impressed.

Ken Hole was playing his first game with us and he started off well by bringing in the best score of the day, thirty eight points.  Larry Eden took second with thirty three and Sean McNamara finally made the podium as he came third with thirty two points.

Peter Henshaw took fourth place with thirty one and Paul Bray beat both David Sayers and Criss Martin on the count back to take the fifth and last place with thirty.

Don Byrne got the only ‘2’ in the field.

Tuesday, Jan. 17, Leam Chabang – Stableford

1st John Fetherston (13) 40pts

2nd Craig Robson (14) 36pts

3rd Joe McArdle (15) 34pts

4th Joe Cuddy (24) 32pts

5th Gilbert Brossnan (23) 31pts

Today we had two outings, one here at beautiful Leam Chabang and another with our friends from the PFGS at Treasure Hill, where the majority of our golfers went as it is not so expensive.  We still had a good group out here on what was another beautiful day for golf.

We were out on the B and C nines which are the most difficult here.  After all the recent rain the fairways were soft and it was playing long with carts allowed on the paths only, but we still got one great score in from John Fetherston who was a very clear winner with forty points.

Craig Robson took second place with thirty six points and Joe McArdle was third with thirty four.  Joe Cuddy got the fourth spot with thirty two points and Gilbert Brossnan filled the fifth and last place with thirty one.

Evelyn McNamara and John Fetherston both recorded one ‘2’ each.

Thursday, Jan. 19, Pattavia – Stableford

A Flight

1st Kevin Blake (7) 36pts

2nd Damian Montague (18) 36pts

3rd Craig Robson (14) 34pts

4th Teddy Lodge (11) 33pts

5th Terry Kelly (15) 33pts

B Flight

1st John McGarry (19) 39pts

2nd Joe Cuddy (24) 36pts

3rd Joe Peters (21) 34pts

4th Tony Dire (25) 33pts

5th John Kelly (26) 31pts

Because of a mix up with another golf course, where they either mislaid our booking or just cancelled us because they had a larger group, we were back here at Pattavia where we hadn’t played in a long time.  We found the course in very good condition with its usual lightning fast greens, and as they allow you to share carts it is excellent value for money.

We had a very large group out again today and we had some very good scores also.  Kevin Blake showed that his bad golf is behind him and today came out the winner of A Flight with thirty six points, beating Damian Montague on the count back.  Craig Robson also continued his steady golf to take the third place with thirty four points.  Teddy Lodge is starting to find his form again after a bad spell and today he took fourth place with thirty three points, edging Terry Kelly into the fifth place on count back.

In the B Flight, John McGarry had the best score of the day and was a clear winner with thirty nine points, an excellent score on this course.  In second place came Joe Cuddy with thirty six points, Joe Peters got the third with thirty four and Tony Dire, who has just arrived back, came fourth with thirty three.  John Kelly got the fifth and last place with thirty one points.

Birdie ‘2’s were recorded by John McGarry, Kevin Blake and Marc Brunner.
