IPGC Golf from The Tara Court Golf

Sunday, Jan. 31, Green Valley – Stableford

Another very nice day for golf for our weekly visit to Green Valley, slightly warmer than The previous week but still very comfortable, even for those who have just arrived for their winter breaks.  As it turned out most of the winners came from the people who spend most of the year here, maybe the visitors haven’t settled in yet.

Paul Pavloff was the winner in the A Flight with an even par 36 points while both Rod Torrie and Joe McArdle had 35, with Rod winning the count back to come second and Joe third.  Vincent Gras, who probably spends more time here than he does in his native Australia, came fourth, also on 35 but loosing the count back to Rod and Joe while Russell Gilroy came fifth with 34 points.

Kevin Blake.Kevin Blake.

In the B Flight we had three players with 36 points and Ged Foy won the count back to take the win ahead of Frank McGowan in second and Joe Peters third.  In fourth place was Andy Galvin with 32 and Joe Cuddy took the fifth and last podium place with 31.

We had three ‘2’s, with John Dearden, Keith Murphy and Kevin Blake having one each.

Tuesday, Feb. 2, Mt. Shadow – Stableford

We were back at one of our favorite courses today, Mountain Shadow, and decided to play off the blue tees, which was maybe a mistake as none of our players managed to play to their handicap.

Today for a change the course was busy and they started us on the tenth but we still got around quickly despite the fact that there was a six-ball group in front of us.  Full credit to them for playing so quickly.

In the A Flight Barney Sheedy was surprised to discover he had won with 33 points, beating Teddy Lodge who had the same score into second on the count back.  Frank McNamara came third with 32 points, Joe McArdle was fourth with 30 and in fifth was Denis Lea with 29.

In the B Flight the scoring was a bit better as we had three players on 35 points, with Joe Cuddy winning the count back to come first ahead of John McGarry in second and Sean Hallahan third.  Ger Lodge took fourth with 33 and Tony Dire was fifth with 32.

We had four ‘2’s, coming from Gilbert Brossnan, Frank McNamara, Ger Lodge and John McGarry.

Thursday, Feb. 4, Khao Kheow – Stableford

Today we were at Khao Kheow where many of us were giving a trial run for the upcoming IPGC Championship.  From the scores we got it will be a case of must do better if we are going to feature in the prizes.

Because we had a large group and this is a very difficult course we gave a choice of tees, yellow or white, with the field breaking even for both tees.

Off the longer yellow tees Kevin Blake, who has lost three shots off his handicap in the last week, still managed to win with 34 points.  Russell Goldsworthy has just arrived from Australia to defend his IPGC crown and came in second with 33.  Also on 33 was Allan Parker but he lost the count back and had to settle for third.  We then had two players on 32 with Teddy Lodge winning the count back to come fourth and Russell Gilroy having to settle for fifth.

Off the white tees Tony Vaughan had his first win this year with 35 points, John McGarry came in second with 33 and Don Byrne was third with 32.  John McNamara took the fourth place with 31 and John Walshe got the last spot with 28.

We had five ‘2’s on the day, recorded by Russell Goldsworthy, Russell Gilroy, Denis Lea, Kevin Blake and Allan Parker.
