PSC golf from The Golf Club

Monday, Jan. 30, Green Valley (white tees) – Medal

1st Barry Tregurtha (18) 68

2nd Dale Shier (12) 68

3rd Mark Reid (8) 70

4th Bob Newell (8) 71

Barry the Book (he’s an avid reader they tell me) had one hell of a day last Monday and walked off the 18th at Green Valley with a big 41 circled at the top of his scorecard.  Mr. Tregurtha has been in fine form of late and whilst he was not the bookies’ favourite, he was no dark horse either.  Tregurtha’s recent captaincy at the Mulberry Ryder Cup at Soi Dao a few weeks back provided ample practice to fine tune his game.

Dale Shier- a rigs to riches story himself- also had a fine 68 but lost on the dreaded count back.  Mark Reid turned in his 70 for third spot on the podium for the January Monthly Medal.  But Barry, what colour shirt mate?

Our thanks go out once again, and probably not for the last time, to Bob Newell for his latest last stint at running the golf for us.  Bob will be moving into his new luxury Jomtien beach condo soon, but hopefully he will run the golf roster for the Wednesday outings.  Cheers mate, remember… black is the new brown!

Right now, Greenwood might possible be in the best shape it has ever been.  It is also the best deal in town so you really should try this course for a great day out.

We had 82 golfers out there today for the 4th monthly comp with our pals at Lewiinski’s.  The consensus was that this should be a regular fixture for our monthly competitions and so the other venue will change as required, but Greenwood will be played on either the Wednesday or the Friday for the near future.

Congrats to Ed Wycoff (in great form these days), Paul Robinson and David Dunne who all won their flights with scores better than their handicaps.  Also a special mention to Kalle Jaskata from Finland who was visiting us for the first time and a great addition to the players of The Golf Club.  Kalle came in with a 35 handicap proving you do not have to be a low handicapper to have fun and play by the rules, just a positive attitude and a smile is all we ask!  Thanks again Kalle, great to meet you and have a good trip back mate.

Another fine day of golf lay ahead of us as we headed out for our 10:00 tee time at Crystal Bay.  The A & C courses were the test of the day on this, the second day of competition between Lewiinski’s and The Golf Club.

The course was in beautiful shape once again and the greens rolled quick and true.  As the cards were coming in there was much mumbling and grumbling about scores and great speculation of the possible winners.

After the round, we all headed back to The Golf Club for a great spread of food and the famous B-B-Q which is all part of the tournament . Dale Shier did a fine presentation to the days’ winners and proceeded to show everyone the finer details of how to properly consume alcoholic beverages.

It all came down to the draw and the format for this is that we pick 10 random scorecards from the Lewiinski’s players and 10 from The Golf Club, add them up and the most points wins.  As it turned out, The Golf Club were the winners for the second month in a row as their 10 golfers totaled 341 points and averaged 34.1 points and Lewiinski’s had a total of 295 for a 29.5 points average.  Well played lads!

The story of the week though was Steve Weller, our good buddy from Vancouver way who is out on an extended visit from the cold.  Stevie shot 35 on Wednesday and a 41 today for his Crystal Goblet at Crystal Bay victory.  A great result from the 8 handicapper.

We must give thanks to Peter Hynard for herding cats for the comp and we will be seeing more of Peter on Mondays and Fridays.  Come out and join us for next months’ comp!

Note:  The Golf Club is located on Soi LK Metro.  We play on Monday, Wednesday and Friday so come join us for a fun day out.  For more information mail us: [email protected] and see updates at www.facebook.com/golfclubpattaya
