Phoenix Tuesday Golf Group
Just as our little group were about to wander to the first tee, God, Buddha, or whatever you believe in, spared us the 45 minute downpour which preceded our game today.
Sadly for the Fairways golf big tournament (on the day) they were already in full flight around the course.
So after about an hour’s delay we eventually started – tackling the Lake and Ocean course. During the round we thought that we may get wet again, but luckily the rain surrounded us without actually falling on us.
Due to the weather conditions we decided to abandon the stroke play comp this month and revert to stableford. Also we implemented winter rules, but it was amazing that only 30 minutes after the rain the course was in impeccable condition. Even carts were allowed on some fairways!
It was interesting to note the high standard of scoring considering the conditions, and as depicted in the headlines it was Bob (the Boston Burglar) Neylon who triumphed with a superb score of 37 points to win the coveted Trattoria Italiana voucher. Joint winner, but losing the first place due to count-back was Dave Boran with the same score. Nice to welcome Dave back, who is here resting for a couple of weeks after securing everyone’s pension plans back in good old Blighty.
Third place went to our dear friend from downtown Dublin, Jomtien, John Bartley with 36 points.
Our technical near pin winner was Dave Boran (1) and that was it. So the unclaimed prizes for the near pins went to the lucky draw.
The sponsored prizes donated by the Relax Bar went to Eamon Murtagh (1 free massage) and Peter Harris (1 free drink). The lucky draw prizes went to yours truly and John Stafford. So, once again everyone who attended the presentation ended up with something.
As usual, after all this fun and games around the table, the rest of the evening gradually became a blur.
With the High Season almost in full flight it is important for anyone (including newcomers) to book their place within the group. Tee off times will be limited and it will be hard to get extra tee times if too many unannounced players turn up. We will, of course, attempt to fit anyone in. Non members of Phoenix can enjoy a green fee of 1,000 baht as a guest of the members within our group.
