Sunday, March 29, Green Valley – Stableford

A Flight

1st Christian Boysen (14) 38pts

2nd Dave Boran (15) 36pts

3rd JP Maffray (13) 36pts

4th Lawrie McBride (13) 36pts

B Flight

1st Terry Mangan (19) 38pts

2nd Nick Odnoral (16) 36pts

3rd Claude Harder (15) 35pts

4th Martin Allard (23) 34pts

Near Pins: No 5 Pierre Bietry, No 8 Peter Henshaw, No 12 Lawrie McBride, No 16 George Jackson.

Christian Boysen topped the A Flight with a fine 38-pointer but the saddest story was that Phil Davies fell all the way out of the money with the second best score of the day.  It was a four-way tie for the silver on 36 points that saw Dave Boran have the better of it, JP Maffray receive the bronze and Lawrie McBride edge Phil of the podium.

Christian Boysen (left) and Terry Mangan.

Irishman Terry ‘pork chop’ Mangan held the top spot in B Flight and was co-man of the match with his 38 points.  Aussie Nick Odnoral claimed the silver with a steady even par round and Claude Harder lifted the bronze as Martin Allard rounded out the flight with 34 points.

Lawrie McBride, Nick Odnoral and Patrick Kelly shared the ‘2’s pot.

After the presentation a lucky draw was carried out for the golfers that played on the day with a prize of 500 baht but you had to be there to win so it was bad luck for Ian Jones.

Monday, March 30, Khao Kheow – Stableford

1st Ian Pickles (15) 38pts

2nd Colin Smith (12) 37pts

3rd Andrew Byrne (10) 36pts

Ian Pickles found himself a little short of cash of Monday morning and was torn between visiting the ATM or playing a little golf.  The line at the ATM was too long so he joined us for a great day at the very challenging Khao Kheow layout and he came away with first place in A Flight with a splendid 38 points.  This was despite a concerted effort by Colin Smith, who was one stoke in arrears.  Irishman Andrew Byrne rounded out the flight a further stroke back.

Peter Hynard and Anne Stokes split the ‘2’s pot.

The lucky draw was not claimed (you have to be in it to win it), the bar that is.

Tuesday, March 31, Burapha – Stableford

1st Geoff Bracegirdle (16) 36pts

2nd Paul Garvey (25) 36pts

3rd Walter Baechli (15) 35pts

The day’s man of the match honours were shared by Geoff Bracegirdle and Paul Garvey, both in A Flight and each with even par rounds.  The sharing came to an end, however, when the count back handed the bigger bag of loot to Geoff and bid “Aloha” to second placed Paul.  No count back was required by the flamboyant Walter Baechli as he was one shot adrift for the bronze.

No ‘2’s were reported so a rollover to Wednesday and Peter Walker pulled his own card out of the pack to win the lucky draw.

Wednesday, April 1, St. Andrews – Stableford

1st Lou Szigligeti (19) 38pts

2nd Nick Odnoral (16) 36pts

3rd Bob Stokes (15) 33pts

Wednesday’s fixture saw the society venture to the Desmond Muirhead monster St. Andrews.  It turned out to be a bit of a walk about for Aussies Lou ‘Zigzag’ and Nick Odnoral as they filled the top two podium spots; Lou with 38 points and Nick with an even par round.  Bob Stokes completed the flight podium in third with 33 points.

No ‘2’s were recorded so a double rollover to Friday

Friday, April 3, Mt. Shadow – Stableford

1st Mark Riley (2) 38pts

2nd Peter Henshaw (22) 36pts

3rd Terry Mangan (20) 36pts

Mark Riley was top of the heap today with a creditable 38 points and behind him two Irishmen, Peter ‘the silver surfer’ Henshaw and Terry ‘pork chop’ Mangan shot their handicaps to fill the minor podium places with Peter getting the better of the count back.

Once again no ‘2’s and at this rate the GM will be needing an accountant soon.
