PSC Golf from The Golf Club

Monday, August 10, Green Valley (white tees) – Stableford

T1st Ken Hole (17) 37pts

T1st Dave Ferris (22) 37pts

3rd John Emmerson (13) 36pts

What a great weekend of golf we had here in the bar as the PGA finished the season of majors for 2015.  A fantastic week for the surprising Anirban Lahiri as his stature just shot through the roof and we’re so happy for our Aussie mates that Jason Day finally got the major he deserves.

We had a decent turnout for Monday’s outing as 5 four-balls took to the links of Green Valley.  It is very slow in town these days as about 20 of our regulars are either abroad on a golf holiday, back to another work shift, or just on holiday to other places.  When we get 20 golfers out, that is good for this time of year, especially as the pricing here is on the high side.

The lads tell me the course was in great shape.  I am out of action with a cracked rib for another frustrating month and cannot wait to get back out there.  With most of the coring and sanding finished at all Pattaya courses, it is a great time to play here.

Our own TGC partner John Emmerson found the podium today, albeit for third place.  Nice job shooting your handicap buddy, you just needed to make that one more putt!

Sharing the limelight today was Ken Hole (in one?) and Dave Ferris, or the Tooth Fairy as we call him.  Dave seems to be putting Kenny Aihara’s lucky hybrids to good use.

Tuesday, August 11, Phoenix M & O (white tees) – Stableford

1st Stephen Borjessan (29) 40pts

2nd Fred Graham (16) 36pts

3rd Phil Smedley (10) 34pts

We had a bit of luck here at Phoenix today, as rolling thunder was all around but not a drop of rain came.  You just never know how it will turn out as lately the rains are very localized and it is the luck of the draw if it hits you or not.

Asking the guys about the condition of the course, it was two thumbs up all round and we eagerly anticipate the opening of the Lake nine, which should be completed by the end of the year.

Our fearless leader, Captain Smedley, was at it again and his 34 got him a spot on the leaderboard.  Another Aussie, our buddy Fred Graham, shot to his handicap with a 36 on the card but visiting Stephen Borjessan blew them all away with a fine 40-pointer!

Friday, August 14, Parichat Links (white tees) – Stableford

1st Jimmy Brackett (8) 37pts

2nd Mark Wood (9) 36pts

3rd Brian Tulley (19) 33pts

Ah yes, the white tees!  The last time we were here we gave the blue tees a try, but never again.  It is a most deceiving 5,800 some odd yards from the white tees but the carry on a couple of the holes is way too long for my taste.  Do not let the yardage numbers alone fool you!

The course was in really good nick but a bit shabby around the edges as most brand new courses are.  That will certainly change in due course and Parichat will grow into yet another beautiful golf course on our roster.  Don’t we have it good here?

Our ol’ pal Brain Tulley is back in town and got to join us at the course today.  Brian gave Parichat a good review after playing here for the first time and taking third place.  The next step on the podium went to the very familiar name of Mark Wood, expert picker of golf major winners.  Marky swept our Major Money contest by picking the best scoring golfers for all four majors this year. Yoo da man!

Another old pal was with us this week and took the top spot so it was good to see Jimmy Brackett back in top form.  We have been playing with Jimmy for 15 years now, from the good old days at Lewiinski’s when Steve Mascari was there, and it brings back fond memories.  Jim plays off an 8 (both here and in Scottsdale, what a concept!) and his 37 made him the sole handicap breaker today to claim all those “Handsome Man” vouchers and a pork chop dinner!
