Bangkok Casuals League Div. 1 & 2
Brass Monkey FC, the newest amateur football team in Pattaya, gained promotion to the Bangkok Casuals League Division 1 with a win over Bangkok United last weekend.
Brass Monkey are managed by local Rick Bryant, who has won many cups and league trophies previously with Pattaya City FC. Brass’ last two matches had seen them give a 5-1 drubbing to United Nations and then a walkover brought a 3-0 win, which brought them to last Sunday’s showdown with the Japanese side Bangkok United, with promotion for Brass on the line.
The Bangkok team made Brass’ job a difficult one as they covered the defence to stop the Pattaya side gaining any clear cut chances and reduced them to taking long range shots. One such shot from Brass’ Dipita skimmed the United bar and a few minutes later it was followed by a rasping effort from Fungkejorn which brought a one handed diving save to keep the score goalless at half-time.
During the break, manager Bryant changed the team about and his instructions worked almost immediately as within 3 minutes of the restart Brass forward Olexandr Keresyuk found a way through the Bangkok defence and he was brought down by the keeper to earn his team a penalty. Keresyuk took the spot kick himself and made no mistake to give Brass the lead.
Dipita was then put through on goal but instead of slotting the ball home he lobbed it over the bar. It was the same player however who put Brass further ahead with a simple tap in when a centre was not cleared by the Bangkok defence and he made it 2-0, which turned out to be the final score.
This coming Saturday, May 31, Monkey play United Nations in Bangkok in the quarter finals of the Bangkok Casuals League Cup, kick-off is at 4-00 p.m.
