Bangkok Casuals Football League Div. 1 & 2
Local Pattaya team Brass Monkey FC were on their travels last weekend when they played first division The Scams, who are in mid table of the first division, so a hard match was expected. This was the first match in this season’s League Cup, with four teams in each group and the top two of each going through to the knockout stage.
The Scams started out strongly but the Brass defense kept them out and both teams did not give much quarter early on. Slowly the Brass players began to find their feet and put together some excellent moves by using the full width of the pitch, stretching the Scams defense to the limit. Brass created plenty of chances but it was not until late in the first half that they were able to take advantage of one of these when center-forward Matveev found himself in the right place to side foot the ball home after another sizzling attack.
The goal only increased the confidence of the Brass team and they continued to create (and spurn) chances until the break, going in at halftime 1-0 up.
Brass came out for the second half in a similarly determined mood and applied more pressure on the Scams defense until eventually it cracked again and Matveev scored from the edge of the box to make it 2-0.
In an effort to score a third and decisive goal the Brass players got caught too far upfield and the Scams broke away to pull a goal back and give themselves a foothold in the game. The Pattaya team would not be denied however and they continued to attack the Scams defense in droves and the pressure paid off as Dipita pounced on a mistake by the home team and made no mistake to slot the ball into the net and make it 3-1, which was the final result in the match.
This was Brass Monkey’s best performance of the season so far as they created many scoring chances and the winning margin could have been much greater.
Brass Monkey have no game this coming weekend but next week they are away to the German All Stars, again in the League Cup.
