Monday, August 4, Plutaluang – Stableford

It’s exactly 100 years since the start of the First World War for the Brits.  Life was never quite the same again as the lamps went out all over Europe and many thousands of people would never see them lit again.  So on Monday morning it was perhaps a moment to pause for thought and reflect for a while on how different things might have been for so many poor souls and their families.  A sobering thought indeed.

Step forward 100 years and the patrons of the TRGG had nothing further going through their minds than the battle about to take place at the Navy Golf Course at Plutaluang (East and South courses).  Now last week in my report I spoke about Derek Thorogood complaining that he always seemed to end up as the bridesmaid, always getting pipped at the post for first place.  Well this week he could be seen to have a point as he finished second twice and third once.  When I caught up with him crying in his beer and asked him for his thoughts he asked me to go forth and I didn’t quite catch the end of his sentence.  So I complemented him on his dress (see photo) and left.

Top of the leaderboard at Plutaluang was Charlie Cox who continued his good form of late and finished on 38 points, just beating Derek Thorogood who finished with the same score, on count back.  Our marathon man Richard Talbot took third spot with a very commendable 35 points after his recent handicap cut.

2nd Derek Thorogood (15) 38pts

3rd Richard Talbot (16) 35pts

Wednesday, August 6, The Emerald – Stableford

On Wednesday it was off to a fairly damp Emerald where they had had quite a downpour the previous evening.  It did not prevent some pretty impressive winning scores, with my playing partner Roger Wilkinson showing the rest the way home with a remarkable 39 points.  He only just made it to No.1 after a count back, beating Monday’s winner Charlie Cox into second place.

Now our blushing bridesmaid must have thought this was going to be his day when he returned with 38 points but our Derek had to be content with third place.

1st Roger Wilkinson (12) 39pts

2nd Charlie Cox (16) 39pts

3rd Derek Thorogood (14) 38pts

Friday, August 8, Eastern Star – Stableford

The week ended for the TRGG on Friday with a trip over to Eastern Star where Daryl Ottaway rounded off a high scoring week with first place on 38 points.  It was tears before bedtime once again for Derek Thorogood who missed out on top spot for the third time this week.  Charlie Cox got a mention in dispatches, again finishing in the top three for the third time this week.  Well done Charlie and better luck next time Derek.
