Sunday, July 9, Green Valley – Stableford

A Flight

1st Gary Emmett (15) 38pts

2nd Paul West (17) 37pts

B Flight

1st Colin Davis (18) 36pts

2nd Steve Coghlan (36) 36pts

Near Pins: Gabe Dakwa, Mike Seeley, J.T.B. & Colin Davis.

Due to the ongoing renovation work at Green Valley we had placing on the fairways today away from the burnt areas.  The rest of the course was fine except for hole 11 where they had dug up all the fairway in front of the green and filled it full of sand ready to lay turf.  Why then didn’t they place the pin at the back of the green instead of just past the sanded area?

We had 15 players so 2 flights with two places in each and four near pins.

A Flight was won by Gary Emmett with a good 38 points and the highlight of his round was an eagle 2 on hole-14.  Gary finished one shot ahead of Paul West while Peter Petersen from Iceland was two further back with 35 points off his 4-Hcp.

B Flight saw the return of the Donkey who just managed to beat Steve Coghlan on count back

A group of 9 players for Crystal Bay and after the previous night’s rain the weather looked set for a couple of days of fine weather.

Tip Briney, playing off 21.7 R with the slope rating giving him 25 hcp, shot a mind boggling 42 points to win the day by a mile.  Kevin Mc Entee had a solid 38 points including 21 on the inward nine to take second while Peter Petersen completed the podium in third with 35.

Wednesday, July 12, Burapha A & B – Stableford

A Flight

1st Kevin McEntee (6) 37pts

2nd Peter Petersen (4) 31pts

B Flight

1st Tip Briney (24) 38pts

2nd Rod Brown (21) 37pts

Near Pins: Kevin McEntee, Martin Solberg

After a couple of days and nights of heavy rains we expected more today but the weather men got it wrong again.  13 brave souls made it to the course under grey skies, but as soon as we got changed so did the weather.

The course was very wet but perfectly playable for the long hitters, which left out the scribe.  A Flight was once again under the control of Kevin McEntee and his 37 points gave him top spot.  Second place went to Peter Petersen with 31 points and 18 on the back nine that edged out Peter Hynard on count back.

B Flight saw a repeat of Monday with the man in form Tip Briney recording the best score of the day, 38 pts, one ahead of Rod Brown in second.

Friday, July 14,
Silky Oak – Stableford

A Flight

1st Vic Hester (14) 38pts

2nd Fred Birch (14) 37pts

B Flight

1st Rod Brown (20) 40pts

2nd Steve Baker (20) 40pts

A good size field of 14 players today for Silky Oak and the course was in good condition despite the recent rains.

We had some good scores and some not so good but nearly half the field played to their hcp or better.  A Flight was a victory for Vic Hester on 38 points, with Fred Birch just one point back with 37 while Peter Petersen & Paul West were both tied on 36 points.

In B Flight it was two 20 handicappers battling it out both, with 40 points, but Rod Brown stole the show with 23 on the back to temporarily wipe the smile off Steve Baker’s face.

The near pins were claimed by Dave Ferris, Paul West & Peter Petersen.
