In a game that represents Pattaya Cricket Club’s oldest fixture, it was the British Club of Bangkok that came out winners in the final over of an extremely enjoyable and exciting contest held last Sunday, May 24.
PCC won the toss at the magnificent Thai Polo Ground and had no hesitation in electing to bat first. Thoroughbred openers Andy Schofield (33) anchored the innings after the early loss of Sultan ‘of no Swing’ (5) and allowed Paul Hack (36) and Salman (32) in particular to construct a competitive total of 143 for 6 from the 25 overs.

Having only won once in their previous 24 matches, the British Club batsmen started with some trepidation. However, confidence grew as Rahoul (42), Goti (26) and Haroon (29) maintained the required run rate despite Salman’s 4/22 including a double wicket maiden late on. It was left to Tejas and Dilip to score the 6 runs off the final over to secure the victory and when Tejas hit hard and straight over mid off after two quick singles the game was won by 3 wickets.
PCC Thoroughbred captain Bobby Young awarded the Dunford/Philbrook Trophy to the opposing captain Dale Lamb and both teams duly began the post match drinking ritual famously associated with this fixture.
