Golf from The Growling Swan
Monday, Sept. 26, Mt. Shadow – Stableford
Plenty of rain hit Pattaya early Monday morning (about 3.30am), and it came down consistently for about 3 hours. This threw doubt as to whether or not we would get out at all today. After a quick call to the course we were advised that it was open and ready to take our punters. Amazingly we played and carts were allowed on the course!
With only 1 bus and a few cars we set out on time and looking forward to taking on Mountain Shadow, a consistently good course that we play once a month.
Conditions were quite pleasant with no threat of the rain returning. The course was in good shape and the greens played true, though a little slow in some cases.
With the small field we were to play 1 flight only and Fred Starbeck, as a late starter, returned the best score for the day to take first place, 1 shot ahead Patrick Poussier. John Edwards fought off Alex Field to take out third position via the count back system.
1st Freddy Starbeck (17) 35pts
2nd Patrick Poussier (27) 34pts
3rd John Edwards (16) 33pts

Thursday, Sept. 29, Greenwood – Monthly Mug
A turnout of 29 enthusiastic golfers gathered to play for the September Monthly Mug title; two full buses and numerous cars headed out on time.
The trip Greenwood Golf Club seems to be getting quicker as the road works must be nearing completion. I would like to think that Greenwood will continue with the fantastic deal that they are running at the moment.
The weather was in our favour, given the rain that we have been getting, and it turned out to be a rather hot day with little or no breeze to report. The course was in great nick although early in the day the greens were a little slow. We played courses B & C from the yellow tees. I believe that the last two groups did get rained on also.
Stuart Brown took out Division 1 and the Monthly Mug, beating Sal Brizzi by the count back system. Third and fourth places were also decided by a count back, with Paul Hack taking third spot from John Davis.
In Division 2, Fred (Boris) Cuypers took out first place 3 shots clear of John Anderson, Niall Stuart and Sandy Leiper who all returned the same scores and had to be separated by that famous count back system.
