PSC golf from the Outback Golf Bar
Monday, July 14, Burapha – Stableford
Seven groups played the A and B nines from the blue tees on a day that started off hot and muggy until the rain came and cooled things down on the back nine. In addition, overnight rain had made the course wet so we played ‘lift clean and place’.
Dave Buchanan signed off his last round with a level par 36pts to win Div A as we welcomed back Bobby Driggs from Japan, Colin Goon from Aus and John Low, Geoff Christie and Mark Humphrey all from New Zealand. Bob Finley was second with 35pts, from Peter Nixon and Bobby Driggs who headed a five-way count back on 32pts that left Dennis Pelly, Colin Goon and Steve Mann all just knocking on the door.
(From left): Eddy Beilby with Bruce McAdam and Stefan Hoge.
Div B was also won with 36pts by Jimmy Little, from John O’Keefe (34) with Ken Young third, beating Stephen Blazsanyik on c/b after both finished with 33pts each.
Pete Stonebridge (A3) and Bob Finley (B3) had the only ‘2’s.

Wednesday, July 16, Thai Country Club – Stableford
Four groups made their way up the motorway to play the magnificent Thai Country Club but unfortunately the recent rain in the area had made the already poor roads near the course, atrocious. A shock absorber and spring shop would make a fortune!
We had a disappointing number of players plus some spoiled cards for our third visit of four here. We reverted to the white tees with ‘lift, clean and place’ in action and together with the greens running beautifully, the scores were red hot.
A special welcome to the IPGC lads, Martin, Mike and John, not forgetting Kerry Rothman who has returned for another short break, even if you did have to go back for your shoes.
Eddy Beilby won the day with a great 40pts, beating Geoff Christie on c/b, and another c/b was also needed to separate third and fourth with Mike Missler getting the nod over John Pegrum, both on 38pts. Fifth place was occupied by Mark Humphrey on 36pts.
There were no ‘2’s.
1st Eddy Beilby (16) 40pts
2nd Geoff Christie (05) 40pts
3rd Mike Missler (09) 38pts
4th John Pegrum (13) 38pts
5th Mark Humphrey (22) 36pts
Friday, July 18, Green Valley – Stableford
Today was overcast, but no rain and a wee bit of sunshine. 20 players turned up to tackle the regular Green Valley course and a welcome to Lars from Norway and his wife, Mildred, from the Philippines who are in Thailand for a week’s holiday. Coincidentally, Lars bumped into one of the Outback’s colleagues in the golf shop on third road on Thursday and just happened to say he was looking for a game. Well there you go – and we hoped you enjoyed the Outback experience.
Surprisingly, even after the heavy rain on Thursday, we were still allowed to drive on the fairways so it shows how good their drainage system is. Some of the greens were still a little bit bumpy after the recent coring and dressing but his didn’t slow down some of our fellow players and Lars was one of them, as he sank his putts from everywhere on the front nine to score 21 points. Unfortunately for him, it didn’t continue.
Jimmy Little followed his win in Div B on Monday at Burapha with another win here, but this time in Div A with 38pts. Second was Rick Evans (36) and Dennis Pelly third on 35; whilst Div B went to Bruce McAdam who recorded the day’s top score of 42, beating Stefan Hoge by one, with Bob Mattes a couple more back on 39. Regretfully, my 37 wasn’t quite good enough.
There were five ‘2’s from Rick Evans & Suzi (8th) and Kerry Beck, Stefan Hoge and a second from Rick Evans (12th).
Div A (0-17)
1st Jimmy Little (18) 38pts
2nd Rick Evans (04) 36pts
3rd Dennis Pelly (13) 35pts
Div B (18+)
1st Bruce McAdam (26) 42pts
2nd Stefan Hoge (19) 41pts
3rd Bob Mattes (22) 39pts
