Monday, July 1, Phoenix Golf – Stableford

Phoenix on the Lakes and Ocean loops today. The scoring wasn’t too bad, with only one golfer scoring below 30 points.

There was a countback between Sandy Chapo and Glen Elsworth, both on 35 points, with Sandy having the better back-nine to take third spot. Second went to the little French general, Gerard Lambert, with 37 points, but the day belonged to Dave Buchanen playing off his 1 handicap and scoring 38 points, 2 under off the stick!

There was only one birdie 2, coming from Sandy Chapo.

Wednesday, July 3, Green Valley – Stableford

With 32 golfers taking advantage of the great deal that Capt. Bob has at Laem Chabang, only 6 groups turned up to play at Green Valley today. In the men’s’ competition Selwyn Wegner (H/cap 15) was the star performer, having only one double bogey in his round to finish with 42 points and looking forward to a reduction in his handicap. Auke Engelkes (13) played well but with only 8 points on his last 5 holes he could not keep up with Selwyn and had to settle for 2nd place on 39 points. Two double bogies and a blob on the way out stopped Pete Thomas (17) making any sort of a challenge for the top berth, but 3rd place and 36 points was respectable.

For the ladies, Miss May (12) is always consistent with her game but today she excelled herself. A birdie on the 1st an eagle on the 7th and a gross score of 74 gave her 46 points and a runnerway victory which she richly deserved. Miss Na (11) had 10 pars for 2nd place, winning on a countback from Miss Nu (15) who only dropped 3 shots on the front nine.

We had two 2s today, from Auk Engelkes and Miss Na.

Wednesday, July 3, Laem Chabang – Stableford

Laem Chabang is known as the premier golf course in this area and is in spectacular condition, even with the amount of rain the course has endured recently.

With 8 groups playing the starter gave us a two-tee start to save a little time. The scoring wasn’t too bad with one of the Aussie lads, Deano, taking 5th place with 33 points. Then there was a countback between the Kiwi contingent of John Harper, Graham Bayly and Ralph, all on 34 points, with John taking 4th, Graham 3rd and Ralph 2nd. One of the local lads, Andrew Woodall, took the top spot with 38 points.

There were three 2’s, coming from Gavin, John and Andrew.
