Travellers Rest Golf Group

A chest infection laid me low this past week so I wasn’t around to pick up on all the gossip down at the TRGG.  So please forgive me if this week’s report is a little lacking in my usual attempts at rapier wit and repartee.  As the daily results were posted it was obvious that playing numbers are on the way up and there were good turnouts at all of our three weekly outings.

Monday, August 24, The Emerald – Stableford

On Monday the TRGG headed over to Emerald and boy what a tight finish resulted.  Rungratree Cox put in her usual bi-monthly appearance and once again cleaned up.  Rung has to be one of the most consistent lady golfers in Thailand and is always there or thereabouts fighting for top spot.  On this occasion she only just got the better of second placed Ted Senior and it took a count back to separate them.  Neil Wilkinson was only one shot behind in third place.

2nd Ted Senior (13) 36pts

3rd Neil Wilkinson (13) 35pts

Wednesday, August 26, Burapha – Stableford

It was off once again to Burapha (B & C) on Wednesday, a course where everybody seems to score well.

Jeff Bunn was the latest to hit the 40 point mark and I am sure this means he is back down to being a six (6) handicapper once again.  In second place Jeff Boylan kept the flag flying for the higher handicappers, finishing on 37 points.  ‘Steady Eddie’ Ted Senior for the second competition running saw his name up on the leader board, this time finishing in third place with 35.

1st Jeff Bunn (7) 40pts

2nd Jeff Boylan (21) 37pts

3rd Ted Senior (12) 35pts

Thursday, August 27, Khao Kheow – Stableford

On Thursday the TRGG headed across to Khao Kheow (C and B courses) to do battle.

Jeff Bunn & David Booth.

Khao Kheow, I am reliably informed, means “green mountain” so it seemed appropriate that the man from the green mountains of Petchabun should feel right at home on this course.  David Booth, who like Rung Cox pays us regular visits on about a six weekly interval, romped home in first place shooting an admirable 39 points.  Rungratree Cox was second only a point behind but in the process obviously fell out with the official handicapper who docked her a further two shots on top of the one he had docked her earlier in the week.  So she started bright and breezy on Monday as a ten (10) handicapper and finished on Thursday as a seven (7) handicapper, ouch that is some cut.

The admirably named Dinga Doyle, who can only be from Ireland with a name like that, made it into third place with 36 points.

1st David Booth (14) 39pts

2nd Rungratree Cox (9) 38pts

3rd Dinga Doyle (14) 36pts

Good luck to all you golfers for the coming week and if you would like to play a round of golf with the TRGG, please phone Derek Thorogood on 080 673 3118 or pop into the Ned Kelly Bar in Soi Lengkee and add your name to the weekly lists which are posted on the notice board.
