Monday, Nov. 7, Crystal Bay – Stableford

Div 1

1st Fergus Brennan (12) 39pts

2nd Jeff Bunn (09) 39pts

3rd Tony Giddon (12) 37pts

4th Paul Stanton (13) 35pts

Div 2

1st Jim McNeill (16) 39pts

2nd Richard Moore (20) 36pts

3rd Frank Hughes (17) 35pts

4th Jimmy Wolfe (17) 34pts

Well the headline was certainly the case for Fergus Brennan with a drought of almost 3 months without a win, but with a few tweaks to his R11 driver Fergus came storming back with two very impressive victories.

But what a difference a week makes, well 5 days to be more precise.  On Monday Fergus stormed to the top of the leaderboard at Crystal Bay with a very impressive 39 points; then just 5 days later at the same course struggled to a very disappointing 25 points.  So keep tweaking the driver Fergus, I’m sure normal service will be resumed as form is temporary, class is permanent.

It was good to see so many players on Monday at Crystal Bay where we played the C & B courses, with a very high standard of golf in both divisions.  The highlight of Fergus’s victory was a very robust 22 points on the back 9, with Jim McNeil winning div 2 with an equally impressive 39 points, with a back 9 of 21.

Tuesday, Nov. 8, Khao Kheow – Stableford

1st Phil Battah (14) 37pts

2nd Ian Bell (6) 35pts

3rd Mike Sanders (5) 35pts

4th Arnold Jones (15) 35pts

5th Jeff Bunn (09) 34pts

Our good friend and popular member Neil Bromley very kindly put up a bottle of wine for the nearest to the pin for our visit to the fabulous Khao Kheow course, and this was won by Jim McNeil, whose shot to the green in the first 4-ball was never bettered.  Maybe the excitement of the win got to him as he missed a seemingly unmissable putt for his 2, however I’m sure a couple of glasses later he’d forgotten all about it.

With 17 players there was just the one division with Phil Battah being victorious with a good score of 37 points.

Thursday, Nov. 10, Phoenix – Stableford

Div 1

1st Fergus Brennan (11) 40pts

2nd Mod Chaviraksa (12) 38pts

3rd Brian Dunbar (12) 37pts

Div 2

1st Richard Moore (20) 36pts

2nd Phill Battah (14) 36pts

3rd Arnold Jones (15) 35pts

Thursday saw an impressive turnout of 25 golfers go to our regular venue of Phoenix.  The course is now really starting to look good and the hard work of the greenkeepers is starting to pay dividends.

Again with a very impressive 40 points Fergus was once again victorious in Div 1, with Richard Moore recording a 36 to take the spoils in Div 2.

Saturday, Nov. 12, Crystal Bay – Stableford

Div 1

1st Jon Dean (11) 40pts

2nd Larry Simpson (11) 38pts

3rd Jeff Bunn (09) 36pts

Div 2

1st Phill Battah (14) 40pts

2nd Simon Tapster (16) 37pts

3rd Frank Hughes (17) 35pts

Our second visit of the week to Crystal Bay on Saturday saw us take on a course with some very tricky pin positions – well that’s my excuse for a pretty dismal 26!  We once again had 2 divisions with Jon Dean winning Div 1 with 40 points and Phil Battah shooting the same score to win Div 2.

Special mention must surely go to Richard Moore, who, on I think maybe the 5th green missed a fairly easy putt and in frustration hit the ground with his putter and in doing so the head sheared clean off.  The rest of his round he used his recovery iron to putt out and still scored an impressive 32 points.

My golfer of the week was a tough decision this week, with 2 double winners both with impressive scores, but I think Fergus has just edged it and it is good to see him on the winner’s podium once more.
