Jomtien Golf with the IPGC

Monday, June 22, Pattaya C.C. – Stableford

Heavy rain here in Jomtien overnight but we still got five groups out today with the divisional cut at 7-18 in the top flight and 19+ in division 2.  Quite a few players had not been to the new clubhouse here and were well impressed, but the course still needs some slight improvements.

Paul Butler, playing off 17, won division 1 with 41 points while Terry Madsen was second just one point behind and Chris Slota took third with 39.

Roar Berger played his best round for some considerable time and topped division 2 standings with 40 points, and there are three 36’s fighting for second place with Colin Phillips edging Steve Godfrey and Sasha Culakovski 18/17/15 on the back-nine count back.

Near pins went to (Div 1) Arthur Hancock, David Horne and Chris Voller, and (Div 2) Roar Berger, Colin Phillips (2) and Chris Slota.

Tony Bless birdied the 16th to scoop rollover ‘2’s pot in division 1 while Roar Berger and Steve Godfrey shared the loot in the second division.

Wednesday, June 24, Wangjuntr – Stableford

Our yearly visit here and we booked the Valley course as the Highlands is closed for another three months.  To be honest, we were all totally disappointed with the condition of the course on both nines, especially the fairways which were in appalling shape and we could not understand why they didn’t move us to the Jungle course as it was almost totally deserted.

William Chang won the day with 34 points ahead of Colin Phillips in second with 31 and John Hughes took third with 30.

Near pins were claimed by Chris Voller (2) and William Chang.

Steve Godfrey birdied the 8th and Colin Phillips the 6th to share the ‘2’s pot in division 2.

Friday, June 26, Eastern Star – Stableford

There was horrendous rain here in Jomtien early morning but the forecast for the Baan Chang area was better and we had no cancellations.  There were a few spots of rain as all six groups teed off but this only lasted for the first three holes and the rest of the round was played in a cool and dry condition.

Still in form after his Monday round, Paul Butler won division 1 with an amazing 43 points, seven up on Tony Bless in second while Chris Voller took third on 35.

In division 2, with the cut at 18+ today, John Hughes was the winner with 35 points while the organizer came second just one point behind and Joe Kubon placed third with 33 points.

Near pins went to (Div 1) Tony Bless and Chris Voller (2), and (Div 2) Paul Butler (2) and John Hughes.

Chris Voller birdied the 6th and Paul Butler the 3rd to scoop the first and second division ‘2’s pots respectively.
