The annual lawn bowls singles tournament at Coco Club in Pattaya, held over the weekend June 4-5, attracted 24 players including 7 ladies who were all vying for the title. The draw was made Saturday morning and it was game on with 60 matches in four leagues to get through.
There were only three players unbeaten after their five matches of the league stages so Ko-ko, Thong and Sue, along with Yuppa and Yong with four wins as seconds went through to the quarter finals. Seven players all on 6 points then had to go to count-back and Frank, Buzz and Nit took the last places in the knockout stages, making it very evenly balanced with four ladies and four men.
The quarters saw the final eight bowlers play the same 10 ends style and results were wins for Yong (7-6), Buzz (9-8), Sue (9-7) and Nit (7-6) with just one or two points separating all the games. The semi-finals then saw wins for Nit (13-4) and Buzz (9-6).
The final was all square at the half way point until Buzz showed his vast experience to pull away with a 10-4 win over Nit who has only been playing one year. The results showed the ladies now can take on the men on an equal standing.
