Tuesday, Nov. 14, Treasure Hill – Stableford

The weather was a bit hot today but we were able to move at a good pace at first and the course looked in good condition.  The fairways were well cut, if a little soft, the rough was full of trees, as most of us found out, and the greens were hard and true if a little well used.

On coming out of the changing rooms on our way to the restaurant it started to rain and as we sat there looking out of the window it got quite heavy, so out to the cars after saying how lucky we were to finish our round dry, and off we went.

The rain did not dampen the feelings of a great day and we were soon back in Pattaya and into the results.  The winner with 37 points was Colm Mullen ahead of Derek Brook in second with 36.  We then had a three-way count-back on 33 points that saw Gordon Clegg in third, Don Carmody take fourth and just missing out was Mick Coghlan.  Mick did not lose out totally however as he won the back-nine with 18 points while Mashi Kaneta won the front nine with 18 also.

Friday, Nov. 17,
The Emerald – Stableford

It’s been a while since the Tropical Golfers headed south to the Emerald Golf Course, so they decided to visit this interesting layout.  With a tough golfer of the month competition in full swing, fifteen golfers headed to Sattahip.

Emerald is one of the most interesting layouts on the rotation.  Despite some long holes few areas are the grip it and rip it approach.  Rolling fairways, enough jungle and other hazards to make you wish you brought that extra sleeve of balls, or two.  Course condition was fair to good but one thing a bit disappointing was the price, at 1350 to walk and 1850 to ride a cart.

First place today was tied at 38 points, with Don Carmody (c/h 32) taking top honors on count-back over Brian “almost single digits” Parish (12).  The next two places were also tied just one stroke back at 37 points, with Tom Herrington (18) beating frequent winner John Davis on count-back.  The final curtain call went to Brian Gabe (21) at 36 points.

Best nines for non-winners came from Gordon Clegg (front) and Mashi Kaneta (back).
