PSC golf from The Outback Golf Bar

Monday, August 29, Khao Kheow – Stableford

After all the rain the previous night it was a wonder this course was even open for play; it does say something for the drainage on the course.  Only 14 players (13 in the comp) turned up and we were off a little ahead of schedule for a four hour round, which is fantastic considering no carts on the course at all.

There was a shower just as our leading group got to the 3rd tee then it was gone and apart from being very heavy underfoot it, was not too bad.

The scores were a reflection of the pretty tough conditions; 34 being the best on the day by Wes Rado, the next was a count back between Keith Gilfether and Alan Ansell, both with 31 points with Keith getting the nod over Alan.  In fourth was Bob Dibben with 30 points and coming in fifth was Tim Knight in a three-way count back over Suzi Lawton and John O’Keefe.

Then it was back to Outback for the customary BBQ.

1st Wes Rado (13/Hi12.5) 33pts

2nd Keith Gilfether (10/Hi9.6) 31pts

3rd Alan Ansell (24/Hi22.1) 31pts

Tuesday, August 30, Pattaya C.C. – Stableford

Only nine players out today as most of the guys were away at Hua Hin.  The course was in good condition after the rains on Sunday and Monday – the only problem it looks as if they are losing the greens, saying that, they were still running true today.

There were no two’s on the day so we paid out first, second and third in one division.  Coming in first with 39 points to now 16 handicap was Barry Chadbourn with Phompinmon Seesa second with 36 and Kurt Eric Persson in third on 35.

1st Barry Chadbourn (17/Hi16.9) 39pts

2nd Seesa Phompinmon (31/Hi27.7) 36pts

3rd Kurt Eric Persson (30/Hi29.5) 35pts

Wednesday, August 31, Burapha – Stableford

No carts on the fairways today meant winter rules but it really wasn’t that bad, not as heavy underfoot as Khao Kheow on Monday.  The 17 Outbackers played A and B off the blues, but with the course still in fantastic condition with no real wet spots that required relief from water, there were some great scores returned.

The Capt’, coming back from an extended break of about six weeks from golf, has all but lost his chances of getting sympathy from the General for a handicap adjustment; shooting 81 gross has scuttled the 14 H’cap he was expecting to get.

Still to win on the day you needed to beat Tim Knight playing off 25, who scored 41 points off his adjusted handicap and was cut two, with in second, Tommy Jenson (21) with 40 points and third was the Capt’ (11) with 38.  Considering that John O’Keefe (19) and Wes Rado (15) scored 36 & 35 respectively, the scores weren’t too bad at all.

There were no ‘2’s.

1st Tim Knight (25/Hi21.3) 41pts

2nd Tommy Jensen (21/Hi17.6) 40pts

3rd Bob Philp (11/Hi8.9) 38pts

4th John O’Keefe (19/Hi16.4) 36pts

5th Wes Rado (15/Hi12.5) 35pts

Friday, Sept. 2, Green Valley – Stableford

After some light rain at the beginning of the round, it turned out to be a good day for golf with a good turnout of some 34 Outbackers, four of whom just came for a hit and did not take part in the comp.  The course was in OK condition although the greens were reported once again as being slow.

Brian Maddox bounced back from his poor showing in Hua Hin earlier in the week, with the day’s top score of 37 points to win Div C, ahead of Ed Horrocks (36) and Mam (32); with Owen Walkley also doing the same in Div A as he won that with 36 points, beating a newcomer to the Outback, Dennis Pelly (35) and Steve Mann (34).  Barry Copestake continues to stay one step ahead of the handicapper as he took Div B with 35 points off 13, beating the PSC Golf Chairman, Joe Mooneyham (34) by one.

There were six ‘2’s:- three on hole 4; Paul Bourke, Jim Brackett & Joe Mooneyham; and three on hole 9; Paul Greenaway and one more each from Jim & Joe.
