Chonburi is looking overseas for examples on how to improve its sports competitions and facilities.

At a March 11 Chonburi Sports Committee meeting, Deputy Gov. Pongsak Preechawit reviewed plans for trips done in coordination with the Sports Authority of Thailand to foreign sport institutions to observe and collect information that can be used as guidelines in operating sports projects in the province.

Sports authority Director Thongjing Siriphaibun also summarized the results of recent competitions in which Chonburi athletes participated.

At the National Sports Games in Chiang Mai Dec. 9-19, Chonburi earned 65 gold, 39 silver and 54 bronze medals.  The province sent 675 athletes in total.

For the disabled games in Chiang Mail Jan. 15-19, 347 athletes from Chonburi participated, earning 50 gold, 53 silver and 46 bronze medals.

He said the authority and province are fostering future success through its Sports Hero program, which pays stipends of up to 3,250 baht per month to 66 athletes in 13 sports.  Twenty coaches are also employed.
