Chonburi students will compete this weekend against youths from across the country in the National Sports Games in Nakhon SI Thammarat.
Deputy Gov. Chawalit Saeng-Uthai said the Jan. 23-31 athletic competition will see competitors in all sports from track and field to football to petanque.
While medals will be awarded, the competition is not all about winning or losing, he said, but on student development in accordance with government policies.
Playing sports will raise the level of abilities amongst all participants as well as promote sports to encourage people to exercise to improve their health and well-being.
The event will also give an opportunity for young athletes to sharpen their skills and eventually participate in higher levels like international sporting events.
