Chonburi pushes Sattahip as ‘city of sailing’

Adm. Somprasong Nilsamai, Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Thai Navy (RTN) and Sontaya Kunplome, President of Chonburi Provincial Sports Association signed MOU to promote sailing amongst the youth of Thailand.

Chonburi officials are trying to position Sattahip as the “City of Sailing”
The province’s Sports Association joined with the Yacht Racing Association of Thailand, Royal Thai Navy and PTT Exploration and Production Plc. Sept. 17 at the Water Sports Center in Sattahip to announce the marketing alliance.

The goal of the project is to bring new participants into sailing. As such, there are 215 students from 12 schools joining the program.



All students were divided into four groups to be trained for sailing, mostly on Saturdays and Sundays during September. At the beginning of the training, sailors from the Thai national team met, talked and joined the activities to inspire the students in the project.

The yachting association also presented an award for the best sailor to Weka Bhanubandh, a member of the Thai national team and winner of the 2022 Optimist World Championships in Turkey in July.
