PSC Golf from the Ferdinand Golf Society
Monday, March 2, Mt. Shadow – Stableford
On this Monday morning we started our week of golf at the challenging Mountain Shadow and playing off the blue tees was always going to be a good test for most. We once again had healthy numbers and in fine but overcast weather conditions our first group teed off 15 minutes ahead of our allotted 10.00 am tee time. The course was in fine condition with the greens a little bit more “friendly” than normal, being medium paced.
The weather turned bad before we made the turn and as we sheltered alongside the 8th tee we watched the 7th green slowly become waterlogged and things were not looking good. After about 45 minutes we were just about ready to give it up when all of a sudden the rain stopped and we watched the water disappear from the green, so we continued our round without any more problems. Our rounds were completed in about five hours, which included the break for rain.

After gaining 2 shots on his handicap in just a week, Christian Boysen took full advantage of it and his 35 points was good enough to give him first place ahead of Lorraine Percy, who grabbed second spot and her first time on the podium, and your writer, Peter Blackburn, who just scraped into third place with 32 points.
1st Christian Boysen (14) 35pts
2nd Lorraine Percy (36) 34pts
3rd Peter Blackburn (14) 32pts

Long Putts: 18th – Bobby Rattanaruangs
Thursday, March 5, Khao Kheow – Stableford
With several other golf societies booked at the course, Khao Kheow was quite busy but our 4 groups were starting on a different nine to the others so our first four-ball started on C1 and got away right on time at 10.06 am on a sunny and quite hot Monday morning. The course was looking great with lush fairways and very well maintained greens and with very little wind, playing off the yellow tees did not pose too much of a problem for most.
The weather did get hotter as the round progressed and yours truly was fading fast so found it necessary to grab a golf buggy for the second nine. With no major hold ups the round was quite swift and it was all over in just over four hours.
It was a “doddle” for Jacob Cummings who won the day with a fine 38 points and Hans Moerk came second on 36, with the serious San Miguel Light consumer Ian Pickles in third spot with 35. There were 2 golfers with 33 points so a count back was necessary to find out who came fourth and it was Sven Hommel (18 point back nine) who prevailed over Thierry Petrement (17 point back nine).
1st Jacob Cummings (8) 38pts
2nd Hans Moerk (20) 36pts
3rd Ian Pickles (15) 35pts
4th Sven Hommel (19) 33pts
Near Pins: C8 – Brian Thomas
Long Putts: A9 – Freddy Starbeck
Friday, March 6, Phoenix (Lakes & Ocean) – Stableford
This was the first of our “Fridays at Phoenix” with the new low season green fee rates and it was quite popular, with good numbers on the start sheet. We had a slightly earlier tee time of 11.00 am and things got underway quite smoothly on a fine but hot day with not too much wind. The golf course was in excellent shape as usual and most of the scoring was quite good, with a couple of golfers having particularly good scores.

After the round it was back to The Phantom Bar for drinks, complimentary pizzas and presentations with a good crowd in attendance. With an outstanding 42 points it was Dave Edwards who won the A Flight, four ahead of Christian Boysen in second while Svend Hommel came in third on 36.
In the B Flight, it was Samorn Tanamsri who took the honours with 38 points and with two players on 36 points the count back saw Thierry Temime (20 point back nine) finish second from Lou Szigligeti (17 point back nine) in third place.
