Chumsai petanque tourney fights drugs, aids poor

Chumsai Community residents vied for 18,000 baht in prizes while helping the poor at a charity petanque tournament recently.

Former City Councilman Nakhon Phonlookin joined Somya Boonphan, chairman of the Three Roads Cup Thai-France Club, and Korn Pornkiengkai, chairman of the Justice Petanque Club of Pattaya Provincial Court, to hand out awards in two brackets Dec. 2.

The tournament was split into divisions for the community organizations and the general public.

In the community competition, 27 teams took part with the Soi Korphai Community placing first, Chumsai second and Porn Vithi third.  Winners took home 5,000, 3,000 and 1,000 baht, respectively.

The open division saw 30 teams compete for the same prizes, with the Everything Finish 2 Team winning, the Patsaor Team finishing second, the Pattaya Team third and the Everything Finish 3 Team fourth.

The tournament was organized to bring community associations out to engage in activities that serve as distractions to drug use while also raising money for the disadvantaged.
