Bangkok Casuals Football League 2014/15

Pattaya City FC’s failure to score after dominating major periods of the game meant that Bangkok FC managed to sneak a 1-0 win at the Laem Chabang Arena last weekend.  Despite the match being sponsored by Smart Target (private tutors in Pattaya for IB, IGCSE etc) Pattaya failed to hit the target for the second week in succession.

Befuddled Pattaya manager Wilcox said later, “ I am thinking of sending all the boys to the tutors….. not to do IGCSE’s, but to learn what a goal looks like!  I am also thinking of sending Tommy Rooney to learn English, but I don’t think they will accept him as he couldn’t fill in his application form.

City started the game that more subs than a famous sandwich chain … but it did make for some interesting viewing.  One spectator said, “Every time the ball went out of play there was a flurry of activity, lots of arm pointing and shouting – someone would run off and someone would run on – it was a sport in itself.  I think they call it synchronized subbing.”  Even though City fell to a 1-0 defeat they can be consolidated by the fact that they broke the world record in substitutions.  Opta Index counted 1,757 in 80 mins.

City were though very unlucky to be hit on the counter attack, as it was Bangkok’s only real attack of the game.

On a recent Monday Night Football, pundit Gary Neville said, “These are tactics that have never been seen before.”  It’s possible that coach Wilcox is again pushing the boundaries of football.  He is a creative thinker and tries tactics that no-one else would even dream of.  He is a liberator, a changer of the football philosophy … either that or he’s just plain awkward!

Pattaya City would like to thank match sponsors Smart Target and all the season long sponsors for their support: Pattaya Rent a Car, Thai Visa, Asia Back Packers, Gecko Properties, KPK Foods, I-Rovers Sports Bar, and kit manufacturer – Puma.

City’s next game is the coming Saturday, Feb. 14, against the German All Stars.
