A new month’s golf began with a game at the Khao Kheow Country Club. Another hot humid day with no wind made for uncomfortable conditions on a course that is always in fine order.
Winner on the day was Les Cobban who always seems to score well on this course returned a card of forty points. One stroke back Mark Stanley, who is playing his best golf for years, returned thirty-nine points. Andy Brady finally got the putter working and took third place with thirty-seven points.
Wednesday, April 4, Pattavia – Medal
1st Terry Hamilton (19) net 71
2nd Neil Carter (12) net 73
3rd Geoff Parker (14) net 75
4th Raleigh Gosney(19) net 75
Near Pins: Colin Greig, Neil Carter, Peter Platt, Dave Ashman.
The first medal round of the month was held at the Pattavia course with a good number of fourteen playing. The course was deserted and our lead group didn’t encounter anybody on the course until the seventeenth tee, so the round was completed within three and a half hours.
The day was hot and humid with very little wind to cool things down. The greens were much slower than we have come to expect at this course, otherwise, the course was in great shape. Many of the dry waste areas are being excavated and starting to fill up with water. If they fill fully it will make for a much better and more difficult course. Some have never seen water in those areas of the course before.
Today’s winner was Terry Hamilton with an excellent score of net seventy-one, followed in second place by Neil Carter two strokes adrift. Third went to Geoff Parker with a net seventy-five beating Raleigh Gosney on count-back. It was Raleigh’s last game before returning to Japan to do a bit of work before coming back later in the year.
Friday, April 6, Mt. Shadow – Stableford
1st MarkStanley (10) 33pts
2nd Andy Brady (18) 32pts
3rd Terry Hamilton (19) 32pts
Near Pins: Les Cobban, Geoff Parker, Mark Stanley (2)
The challenging Mountain Shadow course was the venue for the last game of the week. Over the past few weeks, a number of our members have departed overseas and again today we lost two more returning to European sunshine. Nevertheless, a reasonable number were on hand to take up the challenge of the Mountain Shadow course.
Scores are usually on the low side here and today was no different with most struggling to get above thirty points. Apart from a few areas, the course was in ok condition. All the water catchment areas are being drained at the moment and few have ever seen the water levels so low. This was in stark contrast to Pattavia where they are being filled up.
Continuing with some of his best golf played for a long time Mark Stanley took first place with thirty-three points; Mark seems to all the bits of his game working well for the past few weeks. Second place went to the colorful Andy Brady on thirty-two points. Sporting a vivid blue bandana Andy was lucky Thailand doesn’t have bowerbirds otherwise, we may not have seen him again. Playing his last game for some time Terry Hamilton took third place.
