Phoenix Tuesday/Friday Golf Group

On a drop dead gorgeous day, November 15, we had clear sunny sky with a good breeze to keep us all cool and we had our maximum numbers allowable out this week.  We try to keep to six groups, but had to increase to 7 due to a couple of late signers.  One of them was Chris Coffey, and boy was he glad he decided to play at the last minute.

Chris has been persevering for the last couple of year to get his game sorted.  After a few lessons and plenty of practice we were all very pleased for him today.  At last he broke that 28 handicap barrier.  His official handicap is still in the 30’s, but I am sure it will come down after today.  Chris scored a superb 37 points playing off 28 (our maximum allowed) to win the B Flight and the overall Nemo Music Lounge (Soi Diana) voucher.

In second place in B Flight was Patrick Browne with 36 points and in joint third was John Bartley and Bob Neylon with 27 points each.

In A Flight the winner was the man himself, Eamon Murtagh, with 35 points.  This was secured with a disgustingly incredible long putt on the last.  The pin was set in the worst place possible, but Eamon’s putt found its way to the bottom of the cup somehow.  It also halved the little matchplay game we had as well.

In second place was that happy little chappie, Sandie Duthie. with 34 points and joint third were Denis Dixon and yours truly with 33 points each.

Near pins went to your correspondent (with 2), David Czernie and Jim Nielson.

Some of the guys had to leave early today which left more players than prizes for the lucky draw after the main presentation.  So with the first drink free out of the days takings and everyone who returned to the presentation receiving some sort of prize it turned out a completely free day.

Our thanks go to our hosts Ung and Dieter and their staff of the Relax Bar (Ban Am Phur) for their donations of the lucky draw prizes and preferential rates for the first drinks.

Next week we are playing on the 29th November for the very prestigious Trattoria Italiana voucher with a stroke play format.
