PSC Golf from The Growling Swan

Monday, Nov. 9, Silky Oak – Stableford

Nineteen golfers presented in fine fettle as we braced ourselves for the challenge at Silky Oak.  With five par threes, the course provides a refreshing difference in design to many courses around Pattaya.  One lasting memory is a splendid 535 yard (off the whites) par 5 followed by an 87-yard par three.

The course was presented in fantastic condition and the weather was perfect, with a gentle breeze keeping tempers cool as the course certainly bared its claws. Only 2 players bettered their handicap and many struggled to find consistent form.

Kissy Buchanan was resplendent.  He loves buying new clothes but never forgets that the best moments in life are enjoyed without them.  Kissy started well, but by the end of the day couldn’t hit the skin off a rice pudding.

The inimitable Ebrahim steadily rounded up 37 points but was pipped fot top spot on a count-back by Eric Black.  It seems as he ages gracefully Eric has become kinder to himself and has developed a power game.  Piere Cere and Kevin Waycott rounded out the podium.

1st Eric Black (14) 37pts

2nd Ebrahim (17) 37pts

3rd Piere Cere (11) 36pts

4th Kevin Waycott (7) 35pts

Thursday, Nov. 12, Greenwood – Stableford

Well it was to be 21 eager starters to take the buses up the highway to tackle Greenwood Golf Course.  Unfortunately, two that were to meet us there, traveling in the car, did not make it on time.  They played a 2-ball and did not feature in today’s competition!

We played C& B nines off the yellow tees and although at 6,100 yards it was a little short for some, as always the tricky par 5’s sorted most out.  Scores were good on the day but this is a course that sorts out a lot of golfers.

The course was in good nick with the greens playing true and the weather was also good to us, a bit of a breeze would have been nice though as it did get hotter as the day got longer.

Fred Cuypers, fresh from his return from Russia, showed that he meant business from the outset, taking the day’s honours with 38 points.  Peter Bye came in second just one behind and the next three places needed a count back to sort out, Eric Black getting the edge over Sandy Leiper and newcomer Henry Lowe.

1st Fred Cuypers (16) 38pts

2nd Peter Bye (14) 37pts

3rd Eric Black (14) 36pts

4th Sandy Leiper (31) 36pts
