Sunday, Feb. 21, Green Valley – Stableford

Much improved scoring here today at our regular Green Valley game after the dreadful scores we got the previous week.  It is sometimes hard to understand golf when what is mainly the same people playing the same course and similar conditions can come up with such different scores.

Declan Kelly was back in form today and as well as getting one of his regular ‘2’s he also won the A Flight with thirty nine points, which was also the best score of the day.  In second place Joe McArdle with thirty eight points got advantage of the count back and he beat Richie Hurley on the same score.  Allan Parker took the fourth place with thirty seven and Nick Caulfield took the fifth place with a level handicap thirty six.

Declan Kelly.

The scoring in the B Flight wasn’t quite as good with Shane Heavey winning with thirty five points.  Joe Peters is still playing well despite his large handicap cut and took the second place with thirty four points while Ted Murphy was third with thirty three and Frank McGowan took the fourth place on count back over George Pearson with thirty one.  I think George will be quite happy with that as he was playing his first game since he arrived and he was also after celebrating his birthday on the previous day so all in all it was a good start to his holiday and a belated Happy Birthday to you George.

Tuesday, Feb. 23, The Emerald – Stableford

Another day of very poor golf here at Emerald, even though it was a perfect day and the course was in very good condition, especially the greens which were fast but fair.

Terry Kelly was having his last game with us this trip but at least he didn’t go home empty handed as he came third in A Flight, albeit with a miserable twenty eight points.  Slightly better was Alan Costello who came second with thirty and Joe McArdle was surprised to see he won with thirty one.

In B Flight the scoring was a bit better with Joe Cuddy coming third with thirty points, Derek Kane taking second with a more respectable thirty four and Theresa Connolly was a very clear winner with by far the best score of the day, thirty seven points.  Well done Theresa, at least we had one golfer with us!

A Flight

1st Joe McArdle (14) 31pts

2nd Alan Costello (13) 30pts

3rd Terry Kelly (15) 28pts

B Flight

1st Theresa Connolly (24) 37pts

2nd Derek Kane (23) 34pts

3rd Joe Cuddy (21) 30 pts

Thursday, Feb. 25, Bangpra – Stableford

We were back at Bangpra today, a course which we hadn’t played for a while.  We had read some reports that it wasn’t in great condition but this was certainly not our experience today with everyone being very impressed with it, especially the greens which were in absolutely brilliant condition.  The general consensus was that they were the best we had played in ages, very fast and true.

Theresa Connolly.

We had reasonably good scoring on what is a long and difficult course.  Russell Goldsworthy went round in three over par gross to score thirty six points and win the A Flight on a count back from Declan Kelly.  Joe McArdle was one shot behind to take the third place and Russell Gilroy was fourth with thirty two.

In the B Flight the scoring wasn’t quite as good, which is understandable on this course.  Joe Cuddy was playing his last game for this trip and won with thirty two points.  In second place was Andy Galvin with thirty one points and Frank McGowan came third with thirty.  Gilbert Brossnan took the fourth place with twenty nine.

Russell Goldsworthy made it a really good payday as he had the only ‘2’ of the day.

A Flight

1st Russell Goldsworthy (3) 36pts

2nd Declan Kelly (13) 36pts

3rd Joe McArdle (14) 35pts

4th Russell Gilroy (17) 32pts

B Flight

1st Joe Cuddy (21) 32pts

2nd Andy Galvin (25) 31pts

3rd Frank McGowan (19) 30pts

4th Gilbert Brossnan (24) 29pts

2’s: Russell Goldsworthy
