PSC golf Bunker Boys @ The Ranch
Monday, July 15, Bangpra – Stableford
Fifteen golfers today for our regular visit to one of the most popular courses on our schedule, not least because we’re always made to feel welcome here. Having said that, unfortunately the course wasn’t at it’s best today with the greens, particularly on the front nine, being very bumpy, due to being in the process of recovering from recent coring.
The always amiable starter managed to get us off the first tee a few minutes ahead of schedule, but although the course appeared quiet, the leading group soon caught up with other golfers and the pace of play slowed considerably. The weather was bright and breezy, and the fairways firm, so conditions were almost ideal and even Lee Butler decided to walk rather than taking a buggy.

We welcomed back veteran Bunker Boy, Bob Turner for a rare game, and he managed to produce the highlight of the day despite an indifferent round. Bob’s tee shot on the par three eighth hole rolled up to within three inches of the pin (he tells the story as two inches!), almost giving us our first hole in one for over two years.
Gerry Cooney continued his recent run of good form to take the top podium position ahead of Tony Robbins, who took second place on a count back from Mashi Kaneta.

Wednesday, July 17, Khao Kheow A & C – Stableford
A beautiful sunny day as a smaller group of golfers headed off from The Ranch to tackle the treacherous Khaow Kheow course.
We arrived at the course to find it virtually deserted and it didn’t take us long to find out why. We were allocated to play the A and C courses because the B course is still closed, but what no one told us was that the fairways on A and C are in a sorry state with huge areas of them reduced to dried mud. Whether the damage was deliberate repairs or accidental damage we were unable to ascertain, but the areas are too large to be designated as GUR, and it will be quite some time before the course will be anywhere near top condition.
The mud didn’t affect Mashi’s game too much, as he romped home with a fine score of 38 points, four points clear of second place Gerry Cooney. Mashi had a great start to the round with five pars over the first six holes producing a score of 21 points on the outward nine, and then continued to play steadily on the inward nine.
At the other end of the scale, Barry Murnin continued his disastrous run of form by “wiping” four of the first six holes and managing to score only 8 points on the outward nine, before recovering on the back nine to avoid carding the worst score of the month to date.

The Bunker Boys are a PSC affiliated golf society, who now play out of The Ranch bar on Pattaya 3rd Road (in front of the fire station, and almost opposite the Buffalo Bar).
