Monday, March 21, Khao Kheow – Stableford
On Monday there was a change of venue. The last few weeks on a Monday we have been playing Pattana but this week it was off to Khao Kheow (C and A courses), another tricky course where good scores are nearly always difficult to come by. Not this week however.
In Division 1, one of those newer faces, Mick Abbott, ran off with first prize with an excellent 39 points. It was quite a tussle for second and third places and it took a count back before it was discovered that Seil Peter had just beaten Nigel Ashurst after both finished on 37 points.
Rungratree Cox.
In Division 2 it was Richard Kawagoye, a man who has been around for most of this High Season, who again showed he likes to finish in the winner’s circle by also registering 39 points. He finished four clear of Billy Allan in second while Bob Creswick was a further 3 points back in third place.
Div.1 (0-12)
1st Mick Abbott (10) 39pts
2nd Seil Peter (6) 37pts
3rd Nigel Ashurst (12) 37pts
Div.2 (13+)
1st Richard Kawagoye (15) 39pts
2nd Billy Allan (16) 35pts
3rd Bob Creswick (15) 32pts
Tuesday, March 22, Burapha – Stableford
For the last few weeks the Tuesday venue Burapha looked as though its popularity was waning, with playing numbers dropping. Not this week however, a quite amazing forty four people turned up to play the A and B courses and as a result three divisions were necessary.
In Division 1 it was a lady who showed a filly’s fleet of foot and ran off with the prize money. Rungratree Cox showed a brilliant change of pace down the home straight to finish on 39 points. A gang of four lusty stallions all chased her home but came up short on 37. Now to score 37 points and come up potless is pretty disappointing, so commiserations and off to the knackers yard to the two guys who finished fourth and fifth. Congratulations to Dave Palmer who finished second and Alan Gibb who finished third and off to the sauna to lose some weight for you two.
Aussie Bill Reid won the day in Division 2, which is exactly the same words I wrote last week at the same venue. Bill certainly feels at home on this course, which is a shame because he is returning to Oz and giving the rest of us a chance next week. His 39 points was far too good for the two guys in second and third, both finishing on 36 points as Dave Maw just got the better of Joe Nagle on count back.
In Division 3 it was three newcomers who ran off with all the prizes. In the race for first place Kev Thomsett who just got his nose in front of Jim Ray on the count back after both finished on 40 points each. John Mills finished three shots behind in third place so it’s straight off to the handicapper for a spot of gelding for those three.
Div. 1 (0-12)
1st Rungratree Cox (8) 39pts
2nd Dave Palmer (7) 37pts
3rd Alan Gibb (9) 37pts
Div. 2 (13-17)
1st Bill Reid (13) 39pts
2nd Dave Maw (15) 36pts
3rd Joe Nagle (15) 36pts
Div. 3 (18+)
1st Kev Thomsett (19) 40pts
2nd Jim Ray (20) 40pts
3rd John Mills (21) 37pts
Wednesday, March 23, Plutaluang – Stableford
On Wednesday the TRGG joined the navy and went off to play Plutaluang (north and west courses). After the previous day’s turnout it was not surprising that numbers dropped off.
Mike Rushant.
I haven’t mentioned the cabin boy Mike Rushant for a few weeks as he has been on short rations for a while now but he returned to the Captain’s table with a miserly 34 points, which rather surprisingly was good enough for first place. Mike just managed to get the better of Alan Gibb and Neil Bramley who both finished on 33 points in the race round the deck and first choice of the apple barrel.
1st Mike Rushant (9) 34pts
2nd Alan Gibb (8) 33pts
3rd Neil Bramley (8) 33pts
Thursday, march 24, Green Valley – Stableford
It was back to battle it out round Green Valley on Thursday and what a battle it was, with all three leaders finishing on 36 points. Some things never change however and Alan Thomas winning at this course is almost a weekly event – and this week was no exception as even after a count back he still came up trumps. Joe Nagle had to settle for second and Dave Maw third.
1st Alan Thomas (6) 36pts
2nd Joe Nagle (14) 36pts
3rd Dave Maw (15) 36pts
Friday, March 25, Pattavia – Stableford
On Friday it was Good Friday with Easter coming early this year and so it was off to play Pattavia Century to look for the Easter bunny. Richard Kawagoye ran off with all the Easter eggs and once again I failed to get his photo before he disappeared. I will get you next week Richard. In second place came Nigel Ashurst while ‘Mr. Perpetual’ Alan Thomas had to settle for third this time.
John O’Donoghue had a ‘good’ Friday by recording an eagle at the par four eleventh hole. I promised I would give the retired Aussie train driver a mention – so toot toot one last time for John!
1st Richard Kawagoye (14) 37pts
2nd Nigel Ashurst (12) 36pts
3rd Alan Thomas (6) 36pts
Good luck to all you golfers for the coming week and if you would like to play a round of golf with the TRGG, please phone Derek Thorogood on 0806733118 or pop into the Valentines Guest House (Restaurant and Bar) in Soi Lengkee and add your name to the weekly lists which are posted on the notice board.
