A more pleasant experience here in Green Valley today as we managed to tee-off at our allotted tee time and with no delay.  Once again we had a large group out, now that a lot of our Irish friends are here, although the scoring wasn’t so good so maybe they haven’t settled in yet.

Frank McGowan.Frank McGowan.

To please everyone who play with us we alternate the first tee every other Sunday so we don’t have to hit over the water for our first shot every week.  In theory it should help to improve the scores but it didn’t seem to work this week as we were off the left hand tees and no water.

In A Flight we had a three-way count back on 34 points for the top three places, which Frank McGowan won to edge Terry Kelly into second and Paul Pavloff, again featuring,  coming third.  On the last step of the podium in fourth with 31 points was William Bishop.

Joe Cuddy, who had just arrived two days previously, quickly made his mark in B Flight with the best score of the day and the only one beating handicap.  Joe had 37 points and was a clear winner ahead of Tony Vaughn in second, Joe Peters third on a count back and Brendan Roddy in fourth.

Joe Peters and Terry Kelly shared a good ‘2’s pot with one each.  We didn’t have our usual Tuesday and Thursday games this week as we were all playing in the IPGC Championship where one of our group, Russell Goldsworthy, defended his title and was again crowned the IPGC Champion.  Russell travelled especially from Australia to play in the tournament and we are all delighted for him to win it again.  Also kudos to one of our lady members, Kathleen Fetherston, who won the Ladies section to become the IPGC Lady Champion. Well done Kathleen!  George Cullen, Brendan Roddy, Joe Cuddy and Alan Costello also featured very well in their respective divisions and did us proud.

A special word of thanks to the organizers for running the championship so well.   All our members who played in it were very pleased and impressed with the way it was done and it was a very enjoyable experience for them all.

Note: The Tara Court Golf Group play every Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday, leaving O’Gara’s Bar and Restaurant at the Tara Court on Pratamnak  Rd. around 10.00 a.m.  Sign up either in O’Gara’s or ring Joe on 089 249 1364.
