Sunday, Nov. 1, Green Valley – Stableford

A Flight

1st Dave Boran (15) 39pts

2nd Jeff Clohessy (13) 39pts

3rd JP Maffray (12) 38pts

B Flight

1st Ciaran Smyth (18) 33pts

2nd Danny Tracey (18) 31pts

3rd Joe Earls (18) 31pts

C Flight

1st Bob Chidfalo (19) 40pts

2nd Michael Proebsting (33) 36pts

3rd Martin Solberg (19) 36pts

Sunday morning saw a large turnout for our regular weekly bash at Green Valley.  On arrival at the course we found it in excellent condition and a good test for most of us.  The fairways were in good nick and the greens were excellent, albeit a little quick.  A pleasant breeze helped to make the day even more enjoyable and we set about our game in a good frame of mind.

As the comments were listened to in the clubhouse after the game it was obvious that some good scores had been had registered and so it was back to Lewiinski’s for the presentation.

Our top scorer was C Flight’s Bob Chidfalo, playing off a 19 handicap, who recorded a very creditable 40 points to top his flight and give him the man of the match honours.  Bob was followed up the podium steps by Michael Proebsting and Martin Solberg, and the resulting count back dictated that they did so in that order.

Jumping up to the senior flight we saw two players locked on 39 points apiece; big hitting Dave Boran and Jeff Clohessy.  When the divots had settled it was Dave who emerged with the flight gold leaving Jeff with the silver.  Old Friend JP Maffray was left to tidy up the flight with a solid 38 points.

The B Flight boys found the going tough, with Ciaran Smyth needing just 33 points to top the standings.  The calculator was on overtime this time to sort the minor flight places between Danny Cracey, Joe Earl and Gerry ‘the Irish rover’ Roche; when the mud had settled it was Danny who emerged with the silver and Joe the bronze.  Gerry was left you know where and potless.

Monday, Nov. 2, Silky Oak – Stableford

1st Paddy Jordan (23) 40pts

2nd Sean Soden (24) 38pts

3rd Matt Cronin (16) 36pts

Fair sized turnout left Lewiinski’s to play Silky Oak on Monday, and with the hordes of Asian golfers missing there was an air off High Season unreality about it; no cross-over’s, no waiting, just millionaires golf.

The course was in good condition but the greens were a tad slow, however many golfers enjoyed the challenge.  Amazingly all the podium spots were taken by the Irish, including the bronze count back loser.

Winning the flight was Ireland’s favourite son Paddy Jordon with a sparkling man of the match performance and 40 points.  Paddy was two clear of his good friend Sean Soden while the bronze went to a count back between Matt Cronin and the golf manager Peter Wallace; Matt using all his guile and treachery to leave Peter at sea level and potless.

Wednesday, Nov. 4, St. Andrews – Stableford

A Flight

1st Ciaran Smyth (18) 38pts

2nd Andrew Byrne (11) 36pts

3rd Jeffrey Clohessy (13) 33pts

B Flight

1st Peter Henshaw (24) 31pts

2nd Michael Stafford (21) 31pts

3rd Fintan Coogan (25) 27pts

A good turnout left Lewiinski’s to travel to the very challenging St. Andrews course, which was in fine condition and the forecast was no rain with the weather hot and humid.

All seemed to work well for the man on form Ciaran Smyth who took the A Flight honours and man of the match with an excellent 38 points.  This was two clear of Andrew Byrne who has just returned to Pattaya (welcome back Andy).  A trio of golfers were log-jammed on 33 points, Jeffrey Clohessy, Terry Smith and Michael Goggin, and when the jam was cleared it was Jeffrey who got to fill the podium spot while Terry and Michael were out in the cold.

B Flight struggled with the course as Peter Henshaw and Michael Stafford, who the paymaster knows by their Christian names, were tied on 31 points apiece; Peter ‘the count back king’ took the top podium spot with a slightly better back nine score.  Fintan Coogan gratefully accepted the bronze podium spot head bent with 27 points.
