Monday, Oct. 15, Crystal Bay – Medal

Crystal Bay was the venue for today’s medal round. As we drove into the course via the back entrance the course looked extremely busy, some tees had two groups waiting so it looked like a slow days play was in store. Fortunately, this turned out not to be the case as we encountered no delays from start to finish.
The condition of the course was ok as we have come to expect, not brilliant but generally reasonably good. The weather was hot and humid and once again we managed to avoid any rain.
The standard of play was very variable from quite good to mediocre at best. Golf lessons are already paying dividends for Les Hall who took first place with a fine score of net seventy – we should now start to see his generous handicap come down quite a bit. Second place went to Neil Carter who is leading the way in the quest for golfer of the month, whilst Geoff Parker took third place.
Near pins went to Les Hall, Geoff Parker and Paul Lanzetta.
Wednesday, Oct. 17, Treasure Hill – Stableford

3rd Neil Carter (12) 31pts
On arrival at Treasure Hill, we found an empty car park so we were confident of a quick round and as it turned out that’s exactly what we got, our lead group were finished within three hours.
The course was in good condition but the greens, recently cored and sanded were the worst we have encountered this year. Course maintenance is unavoidable and necessary but it’s going to take some time for these greens to recover, they were extremely slow and bumpy and made an already difficult course almost impossible on which to accumulate a decent score as was reflected in the results. One of our groups had the added challenge of dealing with a caddie who experienced an epileptic seizure.
Despite the difficulty of the course, scores were very close with four golfers locked together on thirty-one points and a further two on thirty points. First place went to Geoff Parker, second to Geoff Cox and Neil Carter took third. Geoff Parker also managed to snag a near pin with Michael Brett taking the other three.
Friday, Oct. 19, Greenwood C & A – Stableford
1st Ken Davidson (23) 41pts
2nd Neil Carter (12) 36pts
3rd Myke Thomas (19) 35pts
Forty kilometers away from the rain of Pattaya the Greenwood course was bathed in sunshine, well at least no rain. The course was in beautiful condition with smooth fast greens making Wednesday’s horror a distant memory. There was little or no wind and at times the day was hot and humid.
Reigning club champion Ken Davidson was having an average round until the seventh hole when he exploded into form with eleven points on the closing three holes giving him a twenty-one total on the front nine. He continued on his way with twenty on the back to take first place with forty-one points. Ken recently made a bold prediction that he intends to go back to back in the club championship. Confidence is an essential element of good sporting performance and if he continues in this vein of form who could doubt him?
Neil Carter continues to perform well and took second place with thirty-six points, two seconds and a third place keeps Neil well in the race for golfer of the month. Myke Thomas, in his last round before returning to Oz, got into the winners circle for the first time with thirty-five points beating Michael Brett on count back. Myke also took a near pin while Michael Brett took two.
