Wednesday, March 29, Green Valley – Monthly Medal Championship

So after 12 months of monthly medals, today we would find the 2016/2017 medal champion for both ladies and men.  We were also set to find the first contender for next year’s championships.

We owe a big vote of thanks to Brian Chapman of Haven Consultants (Financial Advisers) who kindly sponsored each monthly competition and today’s final, for which we are extremely grateful for his continued generosity.

The weather threw everything at us today.  We arrived under some dark, forbidding clouds and all the caddies had the bag covers out in readiness and they were not wrong for we had rain, wind and thunder just as we started.  We gave it a rest when the lightening started as it was a little too close for comfort.  We had persistent rain for 9 holes, just enough to allow us to continue our rounds but heavy enough to make us very wet.  Eventually the sun decided to show its face and dried all our clothes and clubs.

The weather had a serious effect on the scores with the exception of Miss Som, who was obviously in a different world for she ignored the inclement conditions and a 9 on the tenth hole to come home with a net 66 and be crowned the ladies champion for 2016/17.  Left trailing in her wake was Miss Da with a net 72 to be this month’s winner, just a step ahead of Miss Nong on the same score and Miss Kran in third with a net 75.

John “Coco the clown would be proud of your outfit” Dearden won this year’s championship with a net 75 while Thiery Petrement won this month’s medal, pushing John Anderson into second place.

Judging by the number of 2s today, putting came very easily for there were nine of them and these went to Miss Usa, Miss Tan, Lloyd Shuttleworth, Wayne Cotterell, Jeff North, John Anderson, Thiery Petrement, Gerard Lambert and Joe Wheeler.

Friday, March 31, Plutaluang – Scramble

Plutaluang on Friday for our monthly scramble and quite surprisingly we had 12 groups playing as we thought the early start of 8 a.m. would put a few off.

We did manage to stay dry today even though it tried to dump a little rain on the crew.  The course is in great condition and the greens were as good as you could get anywhere. We played the East and South loops for a change, which in the opinion of the scribe is the hardest combination of the 4 nines.

It was the Billabong ladies team that took line honours today with a great score of 56.2, closely followed by the quartet of Ken Leadstone, Arthur Hancock, Ian Walsh and Brian Farino with 58.8.  Coming in third was the team from the Player’s Lounge, namely Paul Hack, Paul Smith Sugar Robertson and Roachy with 59.7.
