Deputy Prime Minister Gen. Tanasak Patimapragorn and Tourism and Sports Minister Kobkarn Wattanavrangkul have urged Chonburi officials to do more to develop the province as a sports-tourism destination.

Chonburi is known as one of the most popular destinations in the Eastern Seaboard, with Pattaya and other seaside resorts.  That is why the government is aiming to implement new policies for tourism development and create new attractions.  Pattaya has the potential to host a variety of major sporting events, both by land and by sea.

Tanasak named Pattaya as the “active beach” for the Eastern Seaboard.  He also addressed present and future development projects and was briefed about how local authorities are dealing with ongoing jet-ski extortion scams, the rebuilding of Pattaya Beach, installation of new lifeguard stands and footpath repairs.

Kobkarn said her ministry is currently working on a draft plan to evaluating the benefits and downsides of the sports-tourism policy.  She said the plans will be completed and likely issued within the next several weeks.
